It's a good thing I still have half a brain....

Cranked up the old table saw today to slice some 2" wide pieces for a project....or I tried to start it up. Used my new extension cord, plugged it in...and nothing. It's a cheapo Ryobi table saw about ten years old, but I love it because the table on the right side of the blade extends to about 42". I spent about an hour on the internet looking for a duplicate with no luck.

Then it hit me: Maybe the power cord is defective. I went outside and pushed to saw into position closer to the outlet. Plugged it in, and it fired right up!

Not only did I save about $180, I still have my beloved table saw!

I love giving older tools a new lease on life. It really burns my azz to have to run out and buy them new when I think there's more life left in them.

I had the switch go bad in mine a few years back and wouldn't turn on :shots:

On my Montgomery Ward radial arm saw, the switch went bad but it was stuck in the on position. I bought one of those extension cords with the foot operated switch (kind of like my mother's old sewing machine), plugged it in to that and still continue to use the saw to this day that way.

I have a field table saw....7-8" blade, and the switch failed, so in about 20 minits, in went a normal toggle switch, no interlock/PB crap.....
