So I bought $498 worth of crayons today.
Now why would I do that? The hospital I volunteer at has a program to help supply the local elementary school with various items. The wife and I talked the volunteers into kicking in $500, so off to Walmart we went. We cleaned out the cheap section of the crayons pretty much then off to the checkstand. It was unbelievable. The cashier actually had to scan every single box we bought, instead of say, punching in .79 and then the quantity. It took 40 minutes to get checked out. The receipt was four feet long. I was flagging people into other lanes and they took my advice.
Then I realized we were 50 miles from the hospital and it was 90 degrees outside and I was hoping we got to our destination before crayons began to melt. It actually didn't get hot in the trunk (white car) and we made it okay. I hope the kids enjoy the crayons.:seasix: |

Coming up next on CNN, a local volunteer steals $2.00 from a hospital charity. No good deed goes unpunished. |
Whatever you do, don't leave them in the car.

When I was a young lad in the 50's there was a little used color crayon it was called, Flesh. It was renamed in 1962 and is now called peach.
from the linked website "Partly in response to the civil rights movement, Crayola decides to change the name of the “flesh” crayon to “peach.” Renaming this crayon was a way of recognizing that skin comes in a variety of shades." "My sister is an artist and I remember well when the flesh-to-peach switch occured because she wrote to the Crayola company complaining. Not about the name change, but about the fact that they subtly altered the color at the same time. The new "peach" was slightly more orange than the old "flesh". She had really liked the particular pale tan of "flesh" and was sorry to see it vanish entirely. Crayola was very nice. They sent her a lifetime supply of the old "flesh" colored crayons -- five or size 64-boxes filled with them." https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb.../t-217811.html |
