Stopped in today at Bowling Green. The eight cars that fell into the sink hole have all been restored and on display.

Some of my favorites:

I might be behind the times on this, but thought only 3 of the 8 were slated for restoration? :island14:

Finding it very difficult to believe this actually got restored...

So What'd ya git in the Gift Shop ?

T-Shirt ?

Barware ?

Key Chain ?

Tin Sign ?

A Throw Blanket for those Chilly Nights in the Yaddy Cave ?

ratflinger 04-12-2024 5:45am

Last time I was there they had a window in the floor that displayed 3 cars that they decided not to bring up. Has that changed?

Hmmm.. I was expecting to see a display like that but didn't. Baby Doll wasn't feeling her best so I had to rush a bit through some displays. You are probably right.

A 1/24 die cast of a C3 gen II, to add to my collection of cool cars that I have owned. :seasix:

We were there as part of the 2014 NCC. The sinkhole was still open and they had barricaded it off and you could walk right up to the edge

Article dated FEB 2018 says all eight were restored:

Exactly four years ago, a massive sinkhole appeared directly under the National Corvette Museum, swallowing eight of the rarest and most special Corvettes on Earth. Of the eight, five were put back on display unrestored, and two were brought back to their original condition by the General Motors heritage program. The last one, a 1962 Corvette finished in Tuxedo Black, has just finished its restoration process, and it looks stunning.

That Astro Vette has always been a favorite. I built the model as a kid.

You are correct, I should have read better, appears 5 unrestored are on display with no attempt to return to original condition.

Not sure why they made that decision, as money could be raised to restore each of them.

ratflinger 04-12-2024 1:16pm

I'd have left them in the hole

There’s no restoring that one in post 3.

I agree, only path would be total replacement of a low mileage one, which may not exist--if so, you may be able to save frame and VIN from the posted car to use.

Skip that headache, just put a C7 on display:seasix:!!
