Obituary
Tommy Rotton Baker Hartsfield
January 23, 1923 – September 14, 2016
Our family lost a loved and beautiful lady, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many, with the passing of Tommy Rotton Baker Harstfield on September 14, 2016.
The University of Alabama and NASCAR, lost one of their biggest fans, as well. Her quiet, steady presence and wry sense of humor will be missed forever.
She was born on January 23,1923 and raised in Center Point Alabama.
After graduating from Massey Business College she worked as a bookkeeper, first for her brother's produce business and then her husband's business, American Printing Company, until her retirement.
*
She was the Secretary/Treasurer of The Birmingham Racing Club and a charter member of The Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers Association.*
Tommy never lost interest in racing, especially Nascar. She was an avid fisherwoman, spending countless nights fishing on Jade Lake. As a big Alabama Fan, who attended every game for many years, she taught her parrot Sam to yell “Roll Tide”.
She lived a good and full life.
Tommy is survived by her children Juanita Crowe, Meridian, MS, Joe “Buster” Baker and his wife Frances of Olustee, Florida, Two stepsons C.H. “Bud” Hartsfield and his wife Carol, Jerry Lee Hartsfield and his wife Mary Jane “Jelly” , of Alabama, Grandchildren Chris Crowe, Katie Coleman and Kelly Licausi, Rhonda Detherage and Charles Hartsfield, Teresa Lischka, Tracy Duke, John Hartsfield and Jack Hartsfield. Tommy had 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Ella Rotton, brothers Conner Rotton and J. P. Rotton, Jr. and Husband H.W. “Ike” Hartsfield.
The Family of Tommy Hartsfield would like to give grateful acknowlegement to Betty Leslie, Fay Cordelle, Jelly Hartsfield and Bud and Carol Hartsfield for their loving assistance to Juanita Crowe and Buster and Frances Baker in caring for Tommy , in her final years.
