Noise Canceling Headphones?

I'm looking for some wireless headphones to use for music when mowing the lawn. I have a pair of regular headphones that I used to use, but since changing to a riding mower (much louder), I can't really hear the music over the engine noise.

Looking at noise-canceling headphones on Amazon, its seems like the big names ($$$) are Sony & Bose, while there are many others (Anker, Cowin. e.g.) for a fraction of the price.

Any recommendations, experiences (good or bad) from anyone?

What about a pair of in ear buds and ear muffs over it?

Ive got the Sennheisen CX sports in ear buds now and really like them https://en-us.sennheiser.com/sport-e...gging-workouts
I have a cheaper non-cancelling set by phillips that works well too.

I never travel without my Bose noise cancelling headphones. They get rid of the low frequency drone in an airplane so would probably work well on a mower.

I was a big fan of the bose cans, but they've really gone downhill in the last 2-3 years.

Go SONY or Sennheiser instead.

I have a pair of Bose over the ear noise canceling that I wear while cutting with a John Deere riding mower. They work Great with Good volume and I like my music Loud.

My boss has the Bose and swears by them. Uses them on flights too.

he most likely hasn't upgraded the BIOS/Firmware. BOSE screwed up NC witha firmware update 2 years ago and still hasn't fixed it. Well, they did send me 2 pairs of 700's to replace my qc35 mk ii's but it still wasn't as good.

They screwed up the battery life indicator as well

I wear my shooting muffs over a pair of ear buds. Works great.

I have used Ultimate Ears custom in-ear buds for years for mowing. They are expensive, but you can’t buy your hearing back.

Great sound and seal out ambient sounds well.

I do not run any of my tractors without my Bose! :cert:

I have a pair pf Sony WH1000-XM4's. Incredible. When you turn them on the exterior noise just vanishes, and they sound great.

You jinxed me. My volume control just failed on my JLAB earbuds. I have to stick with cheapy's because I lose things when I travel.

Well, the absolute best are aviation headphones. Bose makes some nice ones, but those cost > $1000/pair. :leaving:

Ya know for 1k I'd put a new exhaust on the mower and it'd be quiet as my caddy...
Seriously though you can get better mufflers and for relatively cheap an exhaust system could be made.
I threw a new muffler rider this year and dropped noise level a ton, don't hardly need hearing protection now at all. Simple ear buds block 80% of the noise,

I recently purchased the Bose QC 35 II. They are lightweight, sound good, and mute the world (mostly).

Many thanks for everyone's comments. :cert:

I decided on the Sony WH1000-XM4; got them yesterday from Amazon & will probably try them mowing the lawn maybe later today. Or tomorrow, or the next day......

I'm impressed by the adjustments, features, etc., available through the phone app. The equalizer feature is a nice adjustment when I listen to music, a podcast, or whatever.

I tried them sitting on my lawnmower running in the garage (not for too long, since I'm still here....) and am completely happy with the noise canceling.

FWIW, I paid $279 from Amazon, bundled with a a "battery bank" that incorporates an inductive charger, with our iPhones can make use of.

Sony WH1000-XM4 Bundle

All in all, very impressive technology. What a wonderful time we live in. :)
