After 28 years my wife and I are getting divorced.

From our land line phone.:D

It's actually been a Verizon home cell phone for about seven years, but we have kept the same number for 28 years. In the last two weeks we have had not one legit phone call on that line. All junk calls.

And my trusty 15 year old sliding keyboard cell phone will go obsolete on January 1st. I may be forced to go smart phone, but there will be a simple phone available that will be supported by the new technology.:leaving:

Flip phones won't go away, you will just have to browbeat the young twerp at the phone store until he/she will deign to show you one.

I would love to ditch my land line but we live so far from the main road cable refuses to run a line and satellite based internet is even more usuriously ridiculous than AT$T. I am still fighting the losing battle against smart technology so for now at least I remain genuinely "wired in" to the world.

A couple years ago we got a letter from AT&T that our 2G phones would no longer be supported. ( upgrading the towers )

I got a sliding keyboard LG phone and my wife got a flip phone. As Mark said, just beat the saleskid with a stick until he gets a flip phone out of the back :yesnod:

No cable where I live... Been tethered to cell phone for 10 years I think now.
We get 4 bars 4g with cell booster and can stream one or two shows without buffering.

Fyi Peabody it isn't going to get better as far as spam calls are concerned, I've had to run call blocker for years now. Sometimes it's dozen a day blocked.

Well, for now, I'm not giving my number out to anyone but relatives and close friends. The wife wanted to do this, so anyone needing our number for business purposes will get her number. :yesnod:

Believe it or not, when I lived in Silicon Valley I went through a four year period, 84-88 with no phone at all. It was wonderful.

I figure maybe 2 dozen people have my number and have the same number for 20 years. they use random dialers and once you answer they never stop. Spoof the numbers so appears local also so you're tempted to answer. Took me years to get my FIL to stop answering them. I pray you don't get any...

We don't get any robo calls. We have NoMoreRobo on our landline. Cost? $0. If the phone rings once and stops, it was a robo call, then the call terminates. I only wish it could say "FU" then hang up.

28 years is about how long wife & i lasted too (as landline owners). About 3 years ago. That 28 year itch i guess.

I knew your dumbass wouldn't leave your wife before I even clicked on the thread.

I haven't had an actual land line in at least 15 years, so congrats to you? :Jeff '79:

HEY! I got down in the dumps for a second getting prepared to say something consoling (been there, done that shit), and then I read this?

I got my landline in August of 1987 and my phone number has been the same since.

The area code changed once and when I got it, everyone local only dialed 7 numbers, not 10.

I have had my flipped out hippy phone for close to 20 years, wore one out so on my second phone, and wife kept bugging me about her second flat phone, and I finally caved and decided to give it a try.....got a Sammy 5 on an 80 buck .net rebuilt the phone is fine, just that my fingers have worked too much and I can't get the damn screen to react to my finger tips, works for HER just fine, but not ME, damnit....so I have this pen with a rubber tip on it, to manipulate the damn screen......

Flip phones are FAR superior.....

:issues:

Funny as hell here, main drag into the burb, ATT is tearing up about a mile worth of tree lawn to install some ~4" diameter black fiber optic cable off huge reels into existing ducts now WHY, I don't understand....they sure as hell not coming down the back fence line behind my house/street to replace the old tore up twisted pairs that been there full of lightening strikes since '72 when they built this joint......T storms are very popular here in Florida, and the tall trees are nothing but lightening rods, so Comcast off the power pole fiber lines is the way to go......ATT with Dish set ups sux too, because they go down with every cloud.....in the 22 years I been here I have had Dish and Direct and they both suck......a couple years ago I finally took a sawzall to the poles in the back yard and set the hardware to the street.....:issues:

Had a landline at my house in NH. After the psycho moved out, I put the fax machine on that line. The only crank calls i got then were faxes. :funny:

I dropped our land line several years ago. Nothing but telemarketing and robo calls. Wasn't worth keeping it.

MrPeabody 09-01-2019 2:11pm

My phone hasn't rung in a week. All the kids and other relatives call the wife. I'm loving this.
