Good deal on a new DD

Found this one a couple of days ago on the local CL. 1997 Mercury Cougar XR7 with the 30th Anniversary package. Two owners, 96k miles, 4.6 v8, leather, sport suspension, limited slip diff with 3:23 gearing.
Needs a good cleaning but otherwise it all works and it passes emissions! Paid a cool grand for it! I'll drive it a little, tinker on it and the resell it. Never was a fan of the formal roofline of the Cougar. Love the Tbirds and still have the '97 LX/LE I bought four years ago. It now has 76k miles.Attachment 12031 Attachment 12032 Attachment 12033 Attachment 12034 Attachment 12035 Attachment 12036 |
Looks like a steal for a grand!

People be wanting 4k for that down here......how's the rust under it??
also, that engine, is it one cam per bank?? what I call SOHC, in spite of there being 2 cams?? reason I ask is that my 2000 F150 5.4 engine has that and the chain guides went out, filling the sump with plastic and blocking the oil pump pickup so ZERO oil pressure..... |
Can ya still get the ground effects kit for it? :D

The only rust I have found is a spot in front of each rear wheels. Not perforated, about a Half dollar size. |

I had a '93 Thunderbird. Maybe the best car I ever owned. I had it nine years and put 137K on it. The only things that ever failed were the clutch fan and the fuel pump, both after 100K.

Can't beat a good Cougar. :D
