Well...I'm Going Over To The Dark Side
After nearly 30 years of being mostly a contract engineer, I'm going to be going direct at the company I'm at. Along with a generous offer, I get fully paid medical, dental and vision insurance with a $250 per year deductible, six weeks PTO (with two week carryover), 401K with dollar for dollar matching up to 5%, annual 10% bonus and a casual work environment close to my home.
I haven't been a direct employee in over 8 years. It's one of those deals that I'd be an idiot to say no to, and I'm actually pretty happy that my days of bouncing around are finally done. Time to tell Blue Cross to GSAD!!!! :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: |
:hurray::smash:
i just make mistakes and sawdust in my shop. :DAB: |
:seasix:
|
great news, i thought you were moving to cf....thank god!!!!
|
That's great benefits. It sounds like you're a very good negotiator too.

Congrats Mike. I gave up the contract stuff years back. Insurance was way too expensive with 2 kids.
|
About time you got a real job.
|
Congrats Mike. :thumbs::thumbs:
|
are you going to get a hair cut too?
|
that sounds great.
Be aware of hours worked though. Yes, I realize that as a sub-contractor - you did work some long hours. But they were on your schedule, in pink slippers and jammies if you wanted. |

Which Blue Cross do you want to GSAD?
|
Congratulations Mike!
Unbelievable benefit package. Trust me, you'll figure out what to do with 6 weeks of vacation. |

Seriously...I'm going from BCBS which I think sucks to United Health Care. Everyone here at work says they're happy with them. Quote:

Congrats! :seasix:
BTW, Pripyat is an interesting place to visit but I wouldn't buy a condo there either. :D |
Whew, for a second I thought you were going to say you bought a Mustang or something.
|
After 25 years as a direct hire when that company closed I was contract 4 years. I have been back to direct hire for the last 8 years. I prefer direct hire because you get benefits than when you are a contract employee.:cert:
|
Good for you.

Congratulations Mike!
And I almost feel sorry for the BCBS employee who takes that final call. :D |

Giv 'em hell Harry ! |
Did you get a corporate jet for you and your buddies to take you anywhere and everywhere? If so don't forget us little people here in VBOT!:seasix:

And he has that huge problem of what to do with six weeks vacation per year....:D |
6 weeks?
come visit, i'll show you how to make something you can then take home. it's a 10 hour drive. |
Most excellent news Mike! :yesnod:
Great benefits are a huge point of contention with current market prices being retarded high. I envy you for that big time. Scott |
Damn Mike. That sounds like a nice deal. Do they need any help where one can work remote from 1200 miles away?
|
:hurray: Congrats Mike! :seasix:
|
Congrats Mike :toast: Sounds like a fantastic offer and opportunity :cool1:
|
Congratulations!:seasix: Nice to hear of good news like this!
|

But I wouldn't forget ya! Quote:
Actually, there's no final call. All I do is send back a form saying I'm not taking the COBRA plan. The insurance lapses on my last day as a contractor. |
Report to your cubicle, drone.
Congrats on the job. I hope it goes well.:seasix: |
very cool, indeed
when will the lambo reapear? |

I have completely forgotten what it's like to take time off and still get paid. As a contractor, it's always on your own dime. This year, I'll be taking time off on both sides of the Thanksgiving holiday and the week before Christmas week (week of Christmas and New Year is PTO also) and I'll STILL carry 80 hours into next year! :willy: Quote:
|
Congrats Mikey.
|
Congrats Mike!
|
Congratulations; sounds like a great deal. :seasix:
I went the other way, from employee to 1099, for the last several years of my career. It worked for me, since I had access to health insurance from a former job. If it weren't for that, I probably wouldn't have switched. Good luck! |
:seasix: Mike
More Pros than cons, HC is the major one for us My other half just started in the Shipyard last week, she was done bouncing as well...........not many companies can show they have a 21 billion dollar backlog of funded work.......retire when you want:D |

Just don't get trading BJ's for PTO with Saggy McFloppytits and you'll be fine.
Congrats!!! |
So what exactly will you be doing there?
Where will you be working? How much money per year will they be giving you? Pics of hotties that work there ! :ball: You're being pretty vague about the whole deal. :D |
Quote:
Enough to make it worth my while. No pics....not many hotties either. It's engineering for chrissakes. Vague? Yes. Yes I am. :D Oh and before anyone asks...we have no say in how much legroom you have. That's up to the customer. We just make the seat itself. Width is also specified by the customer, so if you're too much of a fatass to fit in the seat, I can't help you. No, I can't get you a discount on Recaro seats. :kimblair: |

By the way, have you seen this? Looks like a good idea to me. Paperclip Design creates an armrest, airplane chair that every airline should use. |
Wow, those are great benefits, the medical alone is great. Congrats! :cert:
|
way to go
very cool, indeed |
Congrats..:seasix:
