Oof.

Radiator took a shit. Decided to replace both headlights “because I was there”.

I hope I can put it back together

The four most dangerous words in auto and home repair: "While I'm at it..." :Jeff '79:

On the plus side , there are always plenty of screws left over to add to your parts bucket !:Jeff '79:

Probably need to go ahead and put that billet aluminum aftermarket grille on, since you've already got everything off. Does it have tow hooks and fog lights? If not, probably should add those, too. While you're there anyway.....

The only tool I like to use these days is my debit card.

I love to work on cars... I don't really care for "having" to work on cars. :toetap:

I hear ya. I loved taking things apart and fixing things since I was a little kid, and had a life-long career as a toolmaker, getting paid to build things.

Always did my own plumbing, carpentry, and mechanic work starting with lawnmowers, then moving up to cars, motorcycles, tractors, chainsaws, etc.

Sometime around my late 50s to maybe 60 (now 73) I started getting tired of it all; it was no longer fun. The challenge was gone, I realized I had nothing left to prove. I've gradually gotten to where now I don't do squat, although I did change the oil on my Vette last month and it was brutal. Not sure about next fall.

Within the past year I've hired two plumbers to do stuff I used to do. Piss on it all, it's easier to just pay The Guy.

I love taking other people's cars apart and then "having to leave".
(especially if they're Mopars)

If you take something apart and put it back together enough times, you’ll eventually have two of them.

Everybody should have a hobby
I am not sure cars is yours?

Now that’s funny. I wrote my reply before seeing your post.

No worries. it's hard to keep up with me....

The_Dude 12-16-2023 6:13pm

I used to do that stuff and not enjoy it. I pay the guy now.

Swany00 12-16-2023 6:15pm

"hold my beer" typically has a bad outcome too

:iagree:

My former room mate Tony ( back around 1979 ) had a '66 malibu a 283 4 speed car. His girlfriend crashed it and Tony found a '67 Chevelle that needed a engine.

Long story short, the "swap the engine from the red car to the green car" ended up being a 425 hp small block chevy that you had to add octane booster to Sunoco 260 plus retard the timing to keep it from knocking ( maybe 13:1 compression was a bit much for the street :leaving: ).

Car was super fast and would pass everything but a gas station :D

Can't say I enjoyed it but I did whatever needed to be done. Not my thing anymore (back problems). For the time being my youngest is good with mechanical stuff and doesn't mind making spare money. Very lucky in that regard.

What happened to your kid, doesn't like getting his hands dirty?

IB4TL 12-16-2023 9:02pm

I remember being 19 & buying my first Corvette.
I was so excited! I was going to learn to do all the work myself.

Changed the oil & wanted my parents to send me to Wyotech opposed to college.
...then I wanted to change the brake pads & give it a tune-up.
Made it ~80% of the way through....put it on a flatbed to the mechanic & haven't turned a wrench since :funnier:

YMMV :D
