Austin Texas questions

Looking around at different areas and Austin hit my wifes radar bubble. Any good bad or other things in Austin?
How is housing, roads, taxes etc??

Visited many times. Austin, Travis County is snowflake land. Outlying cities like Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock, Georgetown if in Williamson County is more conservative. Not as humid as other places. Lots of people headed there because of Tesla and Apple.

Round Rock is a nice area, but stay out of Austin itself.

Narrow roads. No feeder roads. Nice scenery. Too liberal. Lots of bars and music.

The town slogan is "Keep Austin Weird".
Nuff said.......

Easy to get conceal carry license and only takes minutes to buy a firearm.

A month from tomorrow you won't need a license to carry in Texas. If you have one, there is no waiting period though. Don't think constitutional carry changes the waiting period required for non-license holders.

Roads suck and are super packed, housing is fked due to the insane influx of California property money, just about anywhere else in texas is better to live. Areas around Austin are really pretty though.

Thanks. We are looking more outside of Austin. We don't want the city life and sure don't want to be wrapped up in Left nut jobs.
Looking at a job down in the area, time for a career change.

Also very very liberal. Good to visit the Alamo, riverwalk, Ripley's places, etc... but too liberal for people with working brains.

Contact @jw38 at the other place. He lives outside of San Antonio. Or contact @BlueC5Kitten, who lives in San Antonio.

Austin sucks unless you can find a place to live that is convenient to work and other interests (parks, lakes, music scene, club scene)...the traffic is abysmal (and I've driven all over the USA!). SA is better traffic-wise, but more assholes are moving in, daily. My little house is now valued at three times my purchase price, which wouldn't be bad if I wanted to sell, but $6k in taxes, and increasing annually, on a 1400 ft² house is a bit much! No state income tax is nice...but we take up the slack with property tax. The hill country is nice, though property values are increasing there, too ..and outside city limits, you don't have city services, so make sure your house doesn't catch fire, as one of my friend's home did recently. VFD didn't make it in time to save more than two of her dogs or any of her possessions. :'( She wasn't home.

I'm not a huge fan of downtown anything and am a bit of a hermit, though I live minutes from the SA airport, and could be downtown in about 12 minutes. I visit wineries in the hill country...drive takes about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the route. Similar drive time to the Deep Eddy Vodka distillery, and the nicer lakes in the area. Lots of parks and wilderness areas around for walking, running, biking, and hiking. The city govt is fairly liberal, but kept somewhat in check by state govt, if that is a concern. I live a couple miles from the local RNC offices and there are a lot of conservative ideologists in my area of town. If you want to know about specific areas of town, I know people that live or have lived in most of them, though the demographics are changing a lot from year to year. Feel free to message me!

Actuall they stole it from some other city.

OP, I am your Huckleberry. I’ve lived here since 2006.

What is your profession? I live north of Austin. Real estate prices are insane. We could sell our house for a profit then have to spend it plus more assuming we could even find a place.

I don’t have much time right now but PM me your phone and I’m happy to jump on a call.

I'll have a better feel after an interview tomorrow. Currently I'm a Maintenance Manager at an Aluminum Smelter. Been with the current company 17 years, it's time for a change. They've froze our pensions and offering buyouts if you retire. I could invest a nice pretty penny if I leave. Testing the waters, did an interview in TN and had an offer. I just didn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling after the interview plus the housing was crazy in the area. We had been looking for about 6 months and stuff would sell in minutes, a lot before it even hit the market.

If I get an offer, the big fear is being able to find an affordable home for us and our two Large dogs.
I'll shoot you a PM if things look like they are headed in the right direction after tomorrow.
Thanks for the offer. :)
