1911 grips

Where is a good place to get them other than ebay or amazon?

69camfrk 07-02-2019 7:52pm

Just google it. There are so many places that make grips for 1911's it is crazy. That said, Ebay and Amazon both have good selections. What are you looking for in particular?

Any of the online sporting catalogs like Brownell's, Midway USA or even Cheaper Than Dirt will have quite a selection. Or you might try MagPul, Hogue or Pachmayer's sites direct. If you want truly unique get a copy of Firearms News... there are generally several ads touting metal, exotic woods or antler/ebony/ivory etc.

Something that is a little different that looks good on this.

If you have any woodworking skills at all they are straightforward to make. Look online for "knife scales" of "knife handle blanks"; you will find a dizzying array of exotic woods and other materials in the perfect size. Simply trace your current grips on 2 panels, whittle to shape, drill and countersink 4 holes and finish to taste. Voila... custom grips in a weekend!
If you want you can even inlay some skateboard tape for traction, or stipple (I tried checkering but I lack the patience) for added bling.

Who the hell builds guns in New jersey? Most of the residents of the state are unable to buy what they make?

Gunbrokers, Cheaper Than Dirt, Bud's, Grab a Gun. For used ones Armslist.com. I get most of my stuff from Grab a Gun and Ebay.
You can filter Armslist.com to your city or state.
I use Pachmyar combination wood and rubber on a couple of them. I do like the Hogue grips, too. I even have he wooden ones on my High Standard and the RIA 9mm.
Love the 1911, in case you couldn't tell. They are all .45 except the Taurus .38 Super and the RIA 9mm. I use one of the Ruger's for my EDC.

It's actually made in the Philippines.

I like VZ grips. Tactical slant, similar to classic checkering.

Possibly something like this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Full...oAAOSw4GVYToyU

I do as well. Love my Battleship Grey Operators on my cheapo Citadel (RIA) 1911. I have Lok Frag Patterns on my CZ75...I like them as well.

I worry about him losing them in a tragic boating accident.
