Random thoughts about Scotch
 

Tonight I am sipping Glenlivet 18 which still tastes like Glenlivet, but better.

I like The Dalwhinnie a lot but find their 15 year release has lost quite a bit of the "gentle spirit" advertised on the "standard" bottle. It is sharper and no longer has the sweet nose of the original.

The Balvenie is a fine whisky but doublewood tastes (to me at least) like an attempt to doctor up a failed batch so it can be salvaged... the character of the straight malt is muddled and indistinct. Ditto most of the other variants on a single cask aging I have sampled. Many are interesting but most lose the distinct flavor and aroma of the base stocks.

Malt spirits which have spent time in either port wine or rum casks simply taste like shit as far as I am concerned... discuss??

Actually if money were no object I would drink Glen Grant exclusively. Then I would happily STFU.

Scotch is turrible and has no redeeming qualities. That is all.

I just take a typical insulated tumbler, fill with ice, pour enough 80P Canadian to see it, fill with water and sip it like that, more ice water than booze....
