Last good mayor was William Donald Schaefer, revitalized the inner harbor and downtown. He was a dem, he had his detractors, but pretty much liked by most. 2x gov as well.

Moved away when I was 13 but go back often to see family. Remember when inner harbor was the “red light” district.

Would not trade my memories growing up on the gunpowder river or boating on the Chesapeake bay, but never want to live there again.

My uncle was a homicide detective there for many years. Nope.

On the plus side Baltimore was the inspiration for the best series on TV, "The Wire". Many times watching it I would sit stunned as the credits rolled.

Since they weren't harmed ( other than embarrassment), I guess we can chuckle on how they've allowed the criminals to take over the city.

The Deputy Commissioner was head of the Police Compliance Bureau. He doesn't look like a street cop, in his picture in the OP link. He looks like a recent college grad and a college professor type. Most PD dept have a number of Deputy Commissioners.

The muggers profiled him as a nerdy white boy and an easy mark and they were right.
