OH, BTW....Stainless don't ring....

on a pulse field walk through metal detector.....

industry secret from the early 80's.....

pulse field measures the decay of the magnetic field by the surrounding magnetic metals....but stainless don't react....

trick is that RF is so unstable in most operational shituations that it can't be trusted to screen typical personnel loads, say power plant workers, or airline passengers, or even courthouses......much less other .gov installations.....including the White House and Cap Hill.....Supreme Court.....

dunno much about today, except to say doubtful much has changed over the year, unless the did some krazy computer programming on a RF device to pick out the stainless.....witch is doubtful....

Except that most anyone can walk through through a typical security shituation and carry a stainless weapon and not be picked up.....I suspect that's true today......

Maybe a knife but any type of firearm has different metals used in it's construction. Steel for springs plus brass for the cartridges.

How sensitive are the metal detectors? A little change in the pocket usually goes through just fine. And what about aluminum cased ammo plus a full stainless steel gun, like a S&W 5906? If the spring is the only thing a metal detector could pick up, is that enough? Most metal detectors are a little forgiving. I've never have the steel shank in my boots be a problem, for example, or the rivets in my jeans. Never saw a woman have trouble with metal fasteners on their brassieres at a metal detector.

Small pieces of steel/iron have a rapid decay signal, and brass like ammo is not seen at all, certainly would take much larger mass than anyone could carry without be noticed as MOST obvious....

our test object was a 4" long piece of 1/2" diameter steel rod....

would take a large Tejas size belt buckle to set it off.....among common articles giving false alarms....

Anyone remember the name Sentrie??? by INTEX, Bethesda Md.???

It's not.

I've used a metal detector for 30 plus years hunting CW relics. Sometimes when you dig up the object you just grab a handful of dirt and run it under the coil to see if you have it in your hand and out of the hole. Usually wearing gloves. My friend has been fooled a few times forgetting his wedding band is still on his finger LOL

Any idea of what tech changes have been done to see stainless???

:confused5:

The walk through detectors in airports can see stainless steel implants, such as rods or joints, inside your body so they can most definitely see a stainless steel firearm. LOTS of info available about this on a quick Google search.
