Need some advise!

So I think I dropped a valve on my 07 Z, I know this has happened to quite a few people! I was just wondering what kind of damage have you all seen come from this and what kind of price tag am I looking at? Has anyone got away with just replacing the heads? And how hard of a task is it to replace the heads? Thanks!

Many times from what I have heard about the piston tends to get chewed up.(Could score the cylinder also)

Let’s face it that kind of problem normally happens at high RPMs. If your relative competent in auto repairs procedures/ engine work, just changing out the heads CAN be a shade tree job. Cost depends on what’s broke and who is fixing it, could get nasty.

Good Luck, Dave (07 Z06)

You're most likely fine

I've worked on a C6 Z06 with a dropped valve and you would certainly know when it happens. The motor is ripped apart, the valve breaks off and falls into the cylinder, causing massive damage. The one I did, we just replaced the motor under extended warranty, which was lucky for the owner as the bill was over 20 grand. I have some pics to show the carnage.

As for replacing the heads, it isn't to bad if you've got tools and the know how. Be careful timing the motor, to line up all the marks, otherwise you could destroy the new heads you just put in.
