Daughter helped save a life today

My youngest, Meghan, blessed with three daughters, works on CCU floor.
Youngest RN on floor, they waived the 3-year work history, as she did her clinicals there. Been full-time for almost two years, learns something new everyday, likes the challenge. This AM a patient coded, her charge nurse grabbed her and advised she would do more than observe. Doc told her to straddle the patient and give compressions, very physical, she did excellent, doctor commended her, the patient will live to enjoy another hospital lunch. Great feeling to know your children are in a career they love, and making an impact. I take no credit, her mom did all the heavy lifting. And yes, here she is, great kid, her smile is her best asset!! |
WOW !

Damn, I'd fake a code to get her to work on me.

Awesome all across the board!

Very cool! :seasix:
Some days will be a success like this, some will not. My daughter is studying to be a nurse and they're aren't enough out there. Keep up the good work! |

Kudos for your daughter! Great job! I built a home in Coral Springs back in 1978. I was on the fire dept there for over 10 years. Became fire chief. Good ol days!

They’re angels here on Earth, these nurses!
Bless her and the Mrs! |

Nurses are special. Wifey has been a nurse for 35 years, pediatric intensive care. Middle daugher has been a nurse for 2 years, mothers and babies. Youngest has been a nurse for 2 years, cardiac care unit. Oldest daughter is a medical lab worker. M-I-L was a nurse for 40+ years, retired now, and ignoring all doctor's orders. |
Hubba hubba. :seasix:

Now there are 135K residents, 8 total fire stations, 3 are in Parkland as they contract services. You should have stayed here, as I think the fire captain makes $200K/year. They sure do have the purdiest fire stations: https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/c...e=image%2Fjpeg |
Amazing looking woman, too. She must be adopted, right?

Pretty smiles are a dime a dozen, having the brains to not get by just on looks is pretty darn rare.

The hospital rule is you must have three years of nursing experience to get into the CCU floor, they waived for her due to she did her college credits there. She often takes a 4th 12-hour shift each week, she gets OT for the entire fourth shift, which helps fund her purse collection. |

God bless our nurses! |
I'm sure in this amount of time, she's seen people die in the hospital, which has to weigh on people after a while. I can't imagine what a rush it would be to know you SAVED a life, right then and there.

She has lost some patients over her first two years. One was very difficult, as was admitted without life-threatening conditions, took a turn for the worse, died in front of her when the code was unsuccessful. This really wore on her, she cried for a few days, sleep was difficult. Patient was younger, had 20-something daughter always at her bedside, daughter was devastated. I still remember attending my wife's Nurse Pinning Ceremony when she graduated in 1989, we were dating at the time. The speaker for the ceremony was the dean for the college of nursing, and she told a story that a student once asked her was it normal to cry when a nurse loses a patient. Her reply was when you stop crying, it is time to stop being a nurse--I will never forget those words. |

I will try to earn them before I leave. |
Looking at that picture, I think I have an irregular heartbeat - may require hospitalization:)
Its nice when your grown kids finally land in a profession they love and excel in. After several career "dead end" spots, my 44 year old daughter is now a VP with Citibank and is digging it so far.. |

My granddaughter is a 16 year old Battalion Commander in Navy JROTC and has been invited to visit both West Point and Annapolis this summer. She's in charge of 1/3 of her school's cadets (commanding 90 students). Her parents and I decided when she was in the 8th grade to snatch her out of public schools; they are a joke now. |

A downside to being married to a nurse is that IMO, they become somewhat desensitized to seeing the human body.
Seen one, ya seen um all.... |
