Does anyone here take baths ?

We took our tub out and made a nice walk in shower....had the tub for 24 years and it was hardly used as a tub.
When it's not freezing out we use the outside shower . We would use the outside all winter too if I didn't need to shut the water off to the spigots (4) and the shower supplies too.:seasix:

KenHorse 02-09-2024 5:26pm

Yes, when I sold my 2006 Mustang, I had to take a bath just to get rid of it

Aerovette 02-09-2024 5:30pm

I have a big Jacuzzi type tub in the master bath and I think it has been used about 4 times since 2007 and not once since my divorce. I want to replace it with a huge shower, but I'm sure it's out of my budget.

When I plumbed this place in 1981 I put in a shower stall. I was 31, my mom would have been 66.

She commented during the process when they were here: "You know Brucie, when you get old you might like to have a tub."

Me, thinking: "Yeah Mom, what do you know."

Boy was she right. I'd love to have one now.

AUTOHOLIC 02-09-2024 5:44pm

Why would anyone want to slosh around in their own dirty water when you can wash it away in a shower?

Some things are easier (better?) in a warm bath than a shower

(all things being equal of course)

The Japanese protocol is to shower before a bath. Not only that, they keep the bathwater in the tub for reuse. Sounds gross to me. Point is the bath isn't about getting clean, probably more a relax I guess.

I have one of those too, along with a stand alone shower my dad nicknamed the goldfish bowl when he first saw it. I wouldn't use a tub unless it was for something therapeutic, like a sitz bath, or maybe a bleach water bath for poison oak or sumac.

At 73, if I had a tub, I would use it for comfort. I've tossed the idea around for years now of renting a motel room just so I can use the tub. Probably will never do it, but I think about it.

When I was in my early 20s I had an apartment with an old claw foot tub. I'd make up a jug of highballs and go soak for hours. I could turn the hot water on, as needed to keep the tub hot, with my foot.

As good as that felt in my 20s, I'm quite sure it would feel a zillion times better now.

slewfoot 02-09-2024 6:48pm

Everyday, Quick rinse off shower, then soak for 45 minutes

kingpin 02-09-2024 6:48pm

I love a hot bath. After sitting in it for 10 minutes I turn the hot water on full and get it super hot. I do that 5 or 6 times. Hell sometimes I even take a nap for an hour or so.
I'm way too wide in the shoulders to fall into the water when sleeping.
That super hot water seems to relax my bad nerves in my neck and legs.

I take a cold bath to shrink my junk. That way I can feel what it's like to be a Leftist

My master bath has a 1980’s brown Kohler jet tub and in almost 15 years I never used it.
It has some issue that it doesn’t shut off and I have to close the breaker in the basement.

Onebadcad 02-09-2024 7:13pm

You cannot spit tobacco in a tub,,,

Cool 50th AE 02-09-2024 7:15pm

Only the limp wristed take baths.

Yep, I've napped too back in the day. The highballs might have had something to do with it.

Soaking is for outside. Bought a nice spa when I retired and still use it almost every evening.

People swear by freezing cold ice baths for health.

Not for me.

Yadkin 02-09-2024 8:18pm

No.

BADRACR1 02-09-2024 9:07pm

Showers only since I was a teenager. Never understood washing one's face or body with the same water one's ass sits in.:shots:

Most people take baths to sit and relax in warm water.
Not to wash.

That's already been mentioned several times.

Some people just read the OP and respond without reading any of the replies first.

outrunm 02-09-2024 9:20pm

I am right now in the process of having my guest bath tub ripped out and replaced with a shower.

Unsuspicious 02-09-2024 9:24pm

Do you drain a jacuzzi after every time you use it or do you treat it like a pool and keep the water?

I have a jacuzzi tub that I like to soak in. But when I do, it’s shower first, then bath. 🛁

I usually do a hair conditioning treatment/mask while I am in the tub. So, it usually ends up being shower, bath and then shower again to rinse out the conditioner.

I swim naked every day in the summer. Does that count? Think of it as a 38,000 gallon bathtub.

6spdC6 02-10-2024 7:48am

No only showers. They might be long and hot but its moving water. This is the way its been for the last 65 years.

FWIW we had over the course of 25 years a total of 3 hot tubs. They were outside close to the house. We have been in them with the temperature hitting -30F a couple times.

BayouCountry 02-10-2024 7:58am

Only when I have a lady over. It’s a large tub two stories up overlooking the river so it usually ends up being the starting point for a romantic evening. Light a few candles…

Don Rickles 02-10-2024 8:01am

We installed an extra long 6' whirlpool tub, it's been used maybe a half a dozen times in 30+ years....Takes so much hot water to fill it up, the 50 gal.water heater struggle.....

Do an experiment, get a glass filled with water. Then pour some dirt in the glass, the dirt floats on the surface. Now stick your finger in and pull it out. You'll find the dirt is now covering your finger....That's what I think of every about bathing.

I will shower AFTER a bathing, every time!:yesnod:

Do the candles keep the skeeters away? :D

When we built our home (which we have sold) in 1994 we had a two person Jacuzzi tub put in as well as a shower in our bathroom. In 24 years there if the tub was used 8 times it was a lot ! And we had to put in an 80 gallon water heater as per code.....ugh !

If you eat Fruit Loops for breakfast, turns it green and you think there is blood in it.

Here in Virginia, if you get a house with a large bathtub a 75 gallon water heater is required. My previous two houses have had this. My current house has two water heaters. Three, if you count the one in the main barn.

I have two 50 gals water heaters. They have since been separated or zoned….. 1-kids area/kitchen…..2-master bathroom.

Thing is the electric 50’s can’t recover quickly enough using the whirlpool. I mean it’s not horrible but…. Our walk in shower with 4 heads can use up some hot water too…I put small shut offs on each.

I'm in VA and wish they would have installed a bigger water heater in my house. We have a huge jetted tub in the MBR and a regular tub in the guest bathroom, but only a 60 gallon water heater in the attic.

I had a house built in Ashburn way back in 1992 and asked the builder why they were installing a 75 gallon water heater. He said they had to because of the "garden tub" in the master bathroom. :island14:

Yadkin 02-10-2024 3:26pm

Electric water heaters are very limited. I have a 50 gallon indirect water heater powered by a 1" diameter loop from my 120,000 BTH/hr boiler. I forget the first hour rating but it's around 200 gallons. My master shower can flow up to 6.5gpm and so far, so doing the math that's 30 minutes. We have never run out of hot water.

tjfontaine 02-10-2024 9:21pm

owned 3 homes in the last two years. I had a house in MN and one in AZ. Sold them both moved home to North Dakota. All 3 had jacuzzi tubs and one other tub. In the AZ place we had planned to remove it and put in a very large walk in shower. The people who bought it from us did just that right away looks great.

In the current ND house we already have a very large shower with 3 shower heats and steam .... but also has a whirlpool tub. We might pull the tub and make a place for wifey to sit and do her hair, makeup etc. Never use tubs ...

We do have another one in the guest room upstairs if needed.

Don't you people wipe your ass?

Unsuspicious 02-10-2024 10:30pm

Of course not, I imagine most of you are either ballin or old enough to have someone else wipe your butt

ZipZap 02-11-2024 8:19pm

No adult bathes in a bathtub to get clean. It is a luxury for other endeavors.

People bathe kids in the bath because they know how hard it is to get a dog in the shower.
