Caitlin's overseas address...
Update: I'm sending out another package, so I had Caitlin ask more of her friends/coworkers what they might like. She gave me a few more ideas. I updated post #22 and added her friend's requests, in case anyone is looking for more ideas.
Several people expressed that they would like my daughter's address, once she was deployed. I'm happy to report that she got to Afghanistan safely. Got stuck in Kyrgyzstan for a bit, but bummed a ride on a C-17 and finally made it. :) She's busy working and making friends already. :D Rather than post her address publicly, I'll send it out by PM. If you would like it, just let me know or shoot me a PM. If you're planning to mail stuff, know that it is very much appreciated. Very much appreciated. Whatever she receives, I know she will also share with her fellow Airman. Unfortunately, not everyone over there has such wonderful and loving support as this. Keep in mind that there are prohibited items that cannot be sent. This is a pretty good site highlighting the basics. I think there's a more comprehensive list on the USPS site. Thanks, everyone! :grouphug: |
Please PM me her address at your earliest convenience. I have a bunch of APO boxes here to use.

No pork or porn ? What kind of list is this ! :toetap: I'll take the addy if you can give me some kind of idea WTF to send. Something local maybe?
|
When i was down range (PRE-TVB time) CF and quite a few of the mods there had a whole section of my office loaded with care packages from floor to ceiling. There were so many that I had trouble giving them away to some of the civilians, too. Tis a good feeling to know people back home care.
Also, if you send her anything, the small travel size bottles of soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc... are like gold at the weekly bazaar. We used to trade them for DVD's, souvenirs, and most importantly..... INTEL! |
A Christmas care package is in the works. :seasix:
What can she use? |

How the hell do you have a war with no booze, playmates on the wall, and hookers (I love you long time GI). I think I like my vacation in SEA a lot better than this. If you are send Christmas decorations try to get the package off by TG. Some I have sent over in the past took as long as 2 weeks. Some things I have sent in the past are any kind of goodies (chocolate as long as the temp is lower), hot chocolate, hand warmers, decorations for their living spaces, board games, and DVDs. I started shopping today and will have the package in the mail by Monday. Something else, try to make up small packages they can open Christmas morning. And don't forget to put a Christmas card in the box. I promise you this will give you a really warm fuzzy on Christmas morning. |
So we send a burger looking gig made of pork BBQ in a sealed sammich bag, what they going to DO?? pull the package apart, and unseal the sammich to see if it's pork or beef or chicken?? WTF??
Booze? a bottle of water with Gin in it?? and yes, I will comply and work with Linda to get something there on time.....so forward on the addy...please....:seasix::hurray: I just shocked at the silliness of it all....PC gone to hell..... sorry, hate making it political and all, so no comments needed on that score....:sadangel: |

Linda does all the shopping, she cooks, I wash, we are alive.....:seasix: |

I can tell you a few things she likes, in terms of snacks. She's a big (raw) fruits and veggies kid, but that kind of stuff isn't practical. Here's a list of snacks (that she likes) that are relatively inexpensive and will probably travel well...
There are lots of sites that have other great ideas, as well. Unfortunately, she hasn't been there long enough to express to me anything that she needs or forgot. I hope that gives a few ideas. I'm heading to the store later on. I'll add to the list if it jogs my memory on anything else. Honestly, though, she'll appreciate anything that you guys send. 11/20/2012 - Edit to add to list:
11/22/2012 - Edited again
12/06/2012 - Edited again...had her ask her friends what they might like, as well.
She thinks I'm asking for my own purposes...to just send care packages myself. She has no idea what is going on here. |
^ Thanks for the ideas...this will help immensely...

I'll put together a list of the no-go items for you all over the next day along with a list of what I (we) appreciated the most. I also have a few friends who are down range again and they can give me some ideas of what's really needed this time around. It'll jsut take time since they are actually working :funny: Inquiries have already been sent. I expect an answer maybe within the next 12 hours. |

Chocolate does OK at this time of year.
I have seen numerous requests for flavored creamer, depending on where the FPO is the PX may not have a good variety of bath items. If you send anything in a can either make sure it has a pull top or try to remember to include a can opener. The biggest thanks I ever got was for a stinking can opener. :hurray: If you send anything that could leak make sure you put it in a baggie. And definately use the USPS flat rate boxes if you can. The PO can provide a list of what you can't mail. |
You didn't have a P40 ? :toetap:

And why the hell did they say no pork? Did they go on double secret PC or something now? Also, cigars! Cigars were currency over there for me and also a great stress reliever. A lot of the bigger FOBs and Air Bases have weekly cigar club meetings open to all ranks. |

Yeah, Gene...when my BIL was first deployed to Iraq about 4-5 years ago (his first out of three deployments...Iraq X 2 and Afghanistan X 1), I was surprised at the list. Obviously, some things don't mail well, but the restriction on other things was just  Quote:

I just looked over at a big bowl of leftover Halloween candy and thought, "Since chocolate is not going to melt, this bitch is going in the mail with everything else."
Surprise!!! Here's some candy. Ignore the pumpkin faces on the wrappers. :leaving: If nothing else, she can pass it out...as was intended. :D |

Put out three containers with all the free condoms. Label them S,M, and L. Of course they are all the same. Watch as all the "L" ones run out. She can also do what I did. i wanted a lollipop for not screaming some great profanities after a cortizone shot in the shoulder. Well, the PA didn't have any and told me to pretend there was one on the end of a tongue depressor. I taped an unopened condom too it. She laughed so hard she made a few extra and I gave two of them to our battalion Chaplain. He was a little upset a couple hours later when he realized what I gave him that he had on display in his office. :D He even told the XO and the Battalion Commander (and all the staff and company commanders) about it in the morning Battle Update Brief the next morning as part of his brief. That back fired and the BN CDR damn near fell out of his chair laughing. |

She has some pretty funny stories. Mostly from days when she switches off and rides as an EMT. She said they had to pick up some guy that called in his own suicide attempt. They got there and discovered he had cut the shit out of the topside of his forearm with a pair of dull scissors. Pretty painful. When they got him in the back of the ambulance, he started to get combative, so they had to strap him down. At the hospital, the first thing they did was to begin a sedative because he was so unruly. She said, after having cut himself up with dull scissors, he cried like a bitch at the sight of the needle...and promised he'd be good. She said she walked out of the room when he started getting mouthy with the physician on duty...who happened to be a Colonel. Quote:

Just an update, the first box I sent included a 12-pack of beef ramen noodles, a 4-pack of Easy Mac, and 6 bags of M&Ms (varying flavors - milk & dark chocolate, mint, peanut, peanut butter, etc).
The second box has 2 boxes of strawberry Newtons, a huge box of Christmas themed Goldfish crackers, another 4-pack of Easy Mac, and 2 more bags of M&Ms (raspberry). I've got another one I'll send out in a bit (want to stagger them out somewhat) that has 2 boxes of fruit rolls ups, a box of s'mores pop tarts, a 12-pack of chicken ramen noodles, and 5 more bags of M&Ms (2 sweet/salty snack type and 3 almond). |

Caitlin is going to get me a list of all the names of the senders of the packages she has received so far. Her coworkers and roommates love her. She said, "MSgt Carbon said my nickname is boxes now." :D He's the one that brings them their stuff everyday. He's enjoying it, though, because he's benefiting from the treats, as well. :funny: She's really thankful and wanted to make sure I let everyone know how much she appreciates everything. :grouphug: |

I was at WW earlier getting stuff to make a cake and walked past the small appliance aisle and I had a thought, no real pain involved. Maybe they would like to have a waffle maker or a griddle to make pancakes. Ask Caitlin if they would be interested in either one. Obviously I am not sending butter but the pancake/waffle mix and syrup would be a no-brainer.
One advantage to the griddle would be that they could make choc. chip pancakes. Yummmmm! :D Let me know and if they would like either I will get it off after Christmas. |

Thanks, Cindy and everyone else. I'm sure that Brad would appreciate some care packages as well. I have not heard from him in a week. The last word I had was that he was still in New Mexico doing pre-deployment training. It's my understanding that they are supposed to be in country just before Christmas, so it's possible that they are intransit. Once I have an address I will let y'all know. Thanks again for thinking of my son as well. Godspeed to Caitlin, Sandy. |
