Substantial Quake in SOCAL

Prelim is 6.6 in Ridgecrest (Kern County)

Felt pretty good in Northridge (LA County). Got a vid on my Twitter, scottburtknx. I don't know how to link Twitter here.

More of a roller, but long duration. Good Times. :ohnoes:

Probably the longest I've felt. Good twenty seconds.

Felt it pretty strong here. Small waves at first. I was like...is that an earthquake? Yep...that’s an earthquake. :funny:

Even 30 seconds after the shaking stopped, my chandelier was still swinging pretty good. :funny:

Lots of aftershocks.

Sam dog started whining about 5 minutes before the quake. Not until after it happened, did I realize he knew something was up. :yesnod:

The cats here were slightly annoyed. Then they went back to napping in the sun. :funny:

Those first waves were strange. Not super strong...to the point I wasn’t even sure it was an earthquake. Then they got stronger. :ohnoes:

USGS shows that it measured about 3.5 by the time the waves got to Granada Hills/Porter Ranch. So, not too bad.

I was about ten miles from the 7.0 Loma Prieta quake in northern California in '89. My room mate at the time swears the fish in his aquarium were acting very strange for a day or so beforehand.

At first I didn't think anything of it. Big truck driving by or something. What really caught my attention was the duration, then it got stronger. And I was like, Oh ****, this might be a big one. :ohnoes:

That looked exhilarating

A 5.8 hit in Virginia on August 11, 2011 and we felt that in my area of PA. ( south of Allentown)

I was running one of the CNC lathes while standing on an anti fatigue mat and "something felt funny". Found out later it was the earthquake. The "damage" at work was a pile of skids fell over

Dude, I’m yanking your chain. I didn’t realize you were so sensitive. :funnier: :funnier: :funnier:

I appreciate your concern but like Chinaski said, we don’t lay awake at night waiting on the big one. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen.

I’m prepared with food and water storage and essentials, a large first aid kit (that is equipped to handle more than just scrapes and bruises), a small generator, an emergency radio that can be hand cranked (if needed), stored gas and a BOB (if absolutely needed). I keep all my important documents in a safe so they’re very easy to grab all at once. I don’t let my car get below a half a tank. Ever.

So, please, spare me the fear mongering. While I am prepared, I am not losing sleep over it.

:iagree:

Yep, I sleep well in a war zone too. One time my buddy asked me if I heard a bigger than usual attack that happened during my sleeping time. My reply, "What attack". The same applies to earthquakes, tornadoes, and just about any other out of the ordinary thing. Make your peace and sleep well.

There's a chopper hovering over the hills to my southwest. No traffic tie up showing on Google Maps. Maybe there's a pool party and the LAPD or Traffic folks are checking it out.

It still beats being on fire. If an earthquake destroys your home, you can still go through the rubble and salvage most of your valuables.

Ok, here's y'all inter ****ing vention. First of all, California has ****ing earthquakes. They is mostly small, but sometimes they's big. IT HAPPENS! It's Cali-****ing-forn-I-yay. They is hippies, mostly, but resilient enough to handle anything on that Ricter scale under bout 7.5. After that, well, they lose their shit. But that's OK because if the fire didn't git it first, the earthquakes will and that's if the illegals didn't already a-run off with it.

So CALM THE **** DOWN!
