With the old rotary dial phones, how many of you ever dialed a number without using the dial? You could quickly hit the hang up button to create the pulse used for dialing. :yesnod:

Man, you are old school to remember that one.

I'll be 58 next month and survived my childhood and young adult "adventures" :leaving:

I had a creek ( 15-20' wide ) below the farm house and a small stream flowing into the creek in the meadow. That was just a couple feet wide.

I used the extra asbestos siding shingles from the garage and outbuildings as dams and locks in that stream. I had my own water level control. :yesnod:

Skipping rocks in the creek. I got a wrist rocket sling shot and shot more creek rocks out that that I could count. ( I can still see a small scar from about 46 years ago where I bounced a rock off my left thumb joint on my hand. :slap: )

Helping on the farm where all the equipment was vintage back then and the only safety shields were your own common sense.

For a time, we lived next to a river that had a nice swimming hole. Of course, we swam there unsupervised... One day, a group of us kids were swimming and hanging out, when this one girl tried to swim across (maybe 20' across) and got "stuck" in the middle. She just froze up and treaded water. After what seemed a couple of minutes, I swam out to her and tried to bring her in. Well, she panicked and tried to climb over me to get out. She just about drowned me! We made it shore safely though, thankfully.

I'm sure that my 12 year old (I was his age or younger at the time) wouldn't go swimming in that swimming hole. :(

Oh God, the creek. I would have to be dragged out of the creek kicking and screaming. I could adventure all day long in the creek. To this day, a creek is like a magnet to me. What amazes me is the number of kids that aren't allowed near a creek anymore.

Our creek wasn't deep enough for swimming ( although depending on how the last flood sculptured the bend, it was deep in to soak in )

But the neighbors on the other side had a swimming pool. The "neighborhood code" was if the American Flag was all the way up, you could come over and swim. If it was at 3/4 height, no swimming visitors that day.

The other rule was someone from the pool family had to be there for swimming.

Here's another "old time" custom. Since it was mostly farms where I grew up, if you knocked on the door and did not get an answer, it was permissible to open the door , yell "Hello" and shut the door to see if someone would answer.

Two Guys From Italy on SF Mission Blvd. in Granada Hills still has a Ms. Pac-Man video game table. At least they did the last time I was there. :yesnod:

They have a pretty good lunch buffet, too.

What kind of turnip truck did you ride in on? My parents had a push button automatic transmission.
