Default Julie got hung-up in the fence the other night.

Julie got her hoof hung up in the fence Wednesday evening, and I spent several hours along with Lori's brother Philip washing and dressing the wound.
When I dropped by my folks I saw her standing at the fence pawing at it, and I knew she was hung up. I could see the wire had cut deep, and couldn't get her off because she kept pulling back on it. Luckily I had a pair of wire cutters in the truck and I was able to cut her free.
That side of the pasture is an old cattle fence that was mostly covered in briers, but with the foliage gone, the barbed wire was exposed in some spots.
She got cut pretty deep on the backside of her leg just above the hoof, but didn't cut any tendons or major vessels. Changed out her dressing several times yesterday, and put a lot of "Cold water therapy to it". Philip is the proverbial guru when comes to horses, and has had some vet training on pony-first-aid and such. He's forgot more than I'll know.

Julie is taking it easy on the sore tootsie, but she is getting along fine. No real swelling, and the wound is healing up nicely. She can get up and down and put weight on it so we're not too worried. Keeping a close watch for infection though.
We were in a hurry to get Philips pasture fenced-in so we could move the horses and get to work on this one section of fence for this very reason.
Another weekend and we would have had them moved. Damn.

Anyway, she's getting all sorts of pampering right now.

For some reason this reminds me of a Budweiser commercial we'd see during the Superbowl.

Good job with the first-aid, Oddball! You're right: If she's standing on it, she's okay, but infection is the enemy. Is your pasture/barn fairly dry?

Glad she's OK. Horses would be the perfect animal, except for their feet and legs!

For the most part, yes.
The gate area is pretty muddy though. Unfortunately we have to take her through there to dress/clean the wound. Philip had a boot to put on her, so it's not too much of a problem. We just check to see if any mud has gotten in there. Fresh mud I'm not too worried about. It's mud that's been standing a while and has had time to collect manure and breed bacteria.

Run-out barn is bone dry. Rest of the pasture is dry or at least just wet, not trampled down deep mud.

Update:
Barely a gimp. I can tell that she's favoring that hoof, but you have to look for it.

Went out to the field to look at her hoof and she was lying down. She let me have it, undo her wrap, check it out and re-wrap it. Then I got her up without any complaint. She's still tender there, and it's going to take a while to heal that deep cut. But no serious damage.
