I wasn't there and I found it pretty funny. Probably would be funny in a different way if I had been there.

I would enjoy sitting around drinking a beverage and comparing notes about serving in Vietnam vs Iraq/Afghanistan. Mind you, I'm not a pilot though.

Also, the Wing Information Officer, WIO, is mentioned. The title is now Public Affairs, PA, and not much, if any, has changed with the way they do their job.

I was not a pilot then, either. I was a Crew Chief on F-4C "Phantom IIs" in those (VN) days. Served in Iran as an advisor in '75-'76. I don't think much has changed in either place. Same illiterate in-bred cultures trying to steal someone elses stuff and lying about it.

That's still cool. You MX folks definitely put in plenty of OT. Also, not many folks can say they went tdy or on a deployment to Iran.

The F4 sure brings back a lot of memories. That was the aircraft at Clark while I was there. Noisy, man those fukkers were noisy but I liked 'em that way. One funny story, the base was having an ORE but some places were SOP that means work as normal. I was at TMO chasing parts and paperwork and the base came under "attack". I knew it was under attack due to the extreme low level right over TMO by an F4. Normal sounds, normal sounds and then an F4 about tree top level but sub-mach. I suppose the higher ups didn't want to replace windows base wide among a long list of problems with high speed over an active base.

In 'Nam, the last guy to fly back to the base at sundown had the joy of buzzing the tent area, bingo fuel allowing, of course. The 'morale' factor had to cease after awhile due to guys bailing out of the hooches, trying to get to the bunkers. Broken ankles and stuff. The year I spent in Iran trying to teach the "Farkles" how to maintain aircraft was the low point in my AF career. The environment was grim, but the politicians breathing down our necks to get results was worse. I was at Bushehr during the construction of the nuke plant, and before the Shah's ouster. Bad tour.
