I'm looking to transfer my lease. Only a year and a half left.
There's no way in hell I'd get into somebody else's lease.

The guy just drove the best 20K miles out of the car. He got the new car smell. I would ask for some cash up front to take over the lease, maybe a few months worth. How bad do they want to exit the lease? What would Toyota charge them to get out of the lease? Your offer should be something less than what Toyota would charge, but enough to make it worth their while.

I wouldn't lease a car, period, but I'm curious about your reasoning for not assuming a lease? Concerned that the original lessee damaged the car and that will present itself while you are driving it?

18 months, $6,500 = 361/month. GWiz car is $450/month, and we're down to 8k and we own it. For a $90/month savings over a new car, I'd rather have a new car. If you're looking to just have it for 18 months, then it is what it is. BTW, you won't be comfortable driving it. It's tight fit for me. For your additional 2", it my not work.

For starters, as you said, I would never lease, period. When it comes to taking one over, in addition to what you said about being on the hook for anything the prior owner did, you would be paying a new car lease price for a used car. Lease prices don't go down over time so you are paying the same price he did when it was brand new. Unless the cost of the car has gone significantly up you can go to any dealer and lease a new one for the same amount as you would be paying for this used one.

Unless you have a very specific need for an 18 month long lease I see absolutely no benefit to it. Just my .02. but as I said, I wouldn't lease in the first place so my opinion may be completely irrelevant.

I agree with all of that, which is why I suggested asking for cash from the lessee to take over the lease.
