Funny thing about dogs and fence height. They don't instinctively know they can jump that high - it's a learned behavior. Usually by seeing other dogs or from specific training (I teach my dogs to jump and climb).

My 2.5 year old male can fly over an eight foot fence before you can say "I'm Alpo". But he doesn't because ass whippin.
