Vin Scully, who's retiring this year. That's the same guy who, in an interview recently on the local sports radio station, recalled hearing Larry King for the first time. I believe Mr Scully also saw Fred Flintstone drive by for the first time too. :D

Wow, he's still at it? He was announcing games there when I was a kid in the 70's. Actually got to meet him back then. To me, he's the voice of baseball. :seasix:

Vin Scully has been announcing Dodger games for 67 years. He goes back to their Brooklyn days when he took over for another announcing legend, Red Barber. I grew up listening to Vin Scully since the 1960's, and any true Dodger fan knows that it won't be the same without him.

Must be a Giants fan. :puke:

Damn right. :seasix:
Laugh all you want. Giant fans paddle kayaks in the ocean around the back of the stadium with little nets to try and catch foul balls. That's so gay they should rename them the Castro Giants.

Actually they catch home runs. And that's not the ocean, it's the bay. And get back to me when the Dodgers are in first place.

Because the bay isn't part of the ocean, right? And it's still gay. And a two game lead at the beginning of August isn't exactly a lot to crow about, especially when they've dropped four of their last six.
But we'll see...and I'll be sure to do that. :seasix:

That's because cost of living in the city is so expensive they can't afford tickets to the game.
Well there's that. Being very honest, if cost were no object, I'd live in San Francisco in a heartbeat. It's my favorite city in the world.
Dodger and Giant fans always bust each others balls...it's just in our DNA to hate each other. Goes back over 100 years.

Some years ago there were radio commercials for the Giants. They had a number of players who had actually grown up in the city and the commercials consisted of them talking about their childhood memories of coming to the games.
One player said going to those games with his dad taught him three important things:
1. A pure love of the sport.
2. The value of good sportsmanship to the game.
3. A deep, bitter hatred of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

I go down there for a few games every year. The fact is they have sold out over 400 consecutive games. Stub Hub typically gets 2-3 times the face value of tickets. Around $100 a seat is common. $35+ for parking, $12 for a beer, $9 for a hot dog and you're all set. 200 mile round trip for us. I just went to the game last Thursday.
Dodger games bring even higher prices, but like Iron Chef says, it's fun trash talking with the Dodger fans.
It is a wonderful city to visit, but I wouldn't live there for the same reason I wouldn't live in any city. It's just too crowded. And except for maybe New York, it's probably the most car unfriendly city in the USA. I go there for baseball, night clubs and restaurants mostly. It's getting very hard to find hotel rooms that are even halfway decent for under $250, though.

3. A deep, bitter hatred of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It was just as bad if not worse when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn and the Giants were in NYC. Managers like John McGraw, Charlie Dressed, Bill Terry and Leo Durocher made things worse. Things settled a bit after both teams moved to the west coast, but when Juan Marichal hit John Roseboro over the head with a bat, all hell broke loose.
Once again.

I wish they had stayed. The yankees/mets rivalry is nearly nonexistent.
Walter O'Malley wanted to stay. He wanted a new stadium because Ebbets Field was pitifully small with no parking. The Polo Grounds weren't much better. However the New York Parks Commissioner, Robert Moses...who hated O'Malley, just stonewalled him. Made it a personal grudge. O'Malley wasn't one to be trifled with and he and Giant owner Horace Stoneham gave Moses and New York the finger and moved.
Great news for L.A. and a real dumb move by NY.

They actually don't. They sell a large chunk to brokers who don't always resell them all but are still considered a sold ticket. Whatever doesn't sell to brokers or fans are then bought back by the team so they can say it's a sellout. It creates a bigger demand by creating a false lack of supply. It also makes the team look more relevant to sponsors. Kind of a grimy thing to do but I can $ee why they do it.
Exactly why StubHub & other ticket brokers always has seats for sale. :yesnod:
