Man calls 911, says wife was assaulted by toy at Tenn. hibachi restaurant
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – It was all in fun and games, just part of the job, but it was no laughing matter to a Texas couple.
A hibachi chef used a toy doll to squirt water as part of his entertainment while cooking. Water shoots out of a hole when the chef lowers the shorts on the toy, which looks like a boy, but the husband of a woman who was sprayed is now claiming sexual assault.
At the Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse in Murfreesboro, the food here is explosive. It’s served with a bit more flare than your typical restaurant, and folks seem to love it. “Its entertainment, very entertaining as a matter of fact,” said customer Felicia Vargas. That’s what Chef Chino Nguyen was doing Monday—entertaining customers.
But a Texas man, who was eating at the restaurant with his family that day, said the chef sexually assaulted his wife by spraying water on her. He showed News 2 the toy. “You pull down the pant like that,” Nguyen said. It’s a toy that resembles boy and shoots water out of a 'hole' when the shorts are pressed down.
News 2 spoke with the manager Wasabi who told News 2 when they left the couple seemed to be satisfied, saying the food and service was good.
About 30 minutes later, the husband returned to complain about the toy.
The manager said the man gave her two choices—either refund them for the meal or he would call police and have the business shut down. He ultimately called 911, telling the dispatcher he isn’t from Tennessee so he wasn’t sure of their protocol about calling the emergency number.
The husband then relayed what happened:
“The chef here that was doing our meal, at the end of the meal pulled out this little freakin’ doll with its pants down and he shot water on my wife out of its d***,” the man told a Murfreesboro police dispatcher.
The man claims management did nothing. "I tried speaking to the management about it; they’re not going to do anything about it,” the man said. He continued, “That is a sexual assault against my wife and totally disrespectful,” adding, “I’m not from Tennessee so I don’t know Tennessee laws, but in Texas that is sexual assault.”
The manager of the restaurant believes he was trying to get a free meal and the chef was shocked. “Real surprised,” Nguyen reacted. “I was shocked, real nervous, wondering what’s going on.”
Customers were shocked, too. “I just shook my head and thought you got to be kidding me; you got to be kidding me,” Vargas said. “This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of.”
Police took an incident report but is not investigating. The Texas man was advised on how to request a warrant if he so chooses. News 2 reached out to the man, and he told us the last reporter who called him made a joke of the situation. He said no thank you and hung up the phone.
