Dropped my cable provider last month bought a $59 antenna and got 17 free channels, well that lasted one whole month and it died, bought another one and after getting frustrated I took it back and built my own,I get 15 clear channels and two I'm working on clearing up. Only cost me $6.

How does an antenna die? When I was a kid and we all had antennas and they never failed. The only reason to replace them was when a better one came out on the market.:confused5:
Cool that you built your own, by the way.:yesnod:

Cut off our satellite dish over a year ago. Use the antennae for the locals and we have Netflix and Hulu. Total tv bill a month is about 16 bux. Get to watch what I want when I want. I can't believe cable or Sat companies are still in business....
I can't figure out how an antenna dies. Did you have it outside and it blew down? I bought a 9' antenna and have it in the attic. Of course, I'm maybe 25 miles or so from the antenna farm, but I can get 80-90 channels, everything available in Houston. Of course, when you delete most of the junk channels, your usable number goes way down, but it's still enough to make channel surfing a 5 minute job.
Add in Netflix and the only thing I'd like to have would be a few of the cable news channels and, occasionally, the ability to watch Rockets home games, but it's not worth the heavy cost of cable for just that limited want.

This was one of those electric jobs that rotates with a remote it had a built in booster,I guess it got hit by lightening one day,it just quit picking up channels.

Netflix is fair, but I think Amazon video has more to offer. Yes, you pay for the good stuff, but still beats cable. I am getting close to breaking free, but I still want to see some things in real time and it's tough to get that without cable.
I wish cable would stop their stupid packages and bundles and just charge by the channel. Pick any 10 channels, pay X, Pick 20 channels, pay Y, etc. Then I could mix and match and pay only for things I'll actually watch.

I can't figure out how an antenna dies.
My antenna was a two-piece deal with a reflector in back and the active elements in front, sorta like this:

In my case a nut loosened and fell off of the lower bolt that holds the antenna part in front of the reflector part; never could find where that nut, bolt, and spacer went. Without the spacer holding the two pieces at the correct distance apart the functioning of the antenna was fatally compromised.

Can you go buy (or make) a handful of plastic washers and put it together, trying one washer, then two, etc., until you find the OEM spacing that makes the thing work properly? Use zip ties to replace the nut and bolt if the are a conduction problem.
The antenna I bought was a directional, and thankfully, it's in the attic, because it didn't look super rugged to use as an outside antenna. Channel Master brand I think it is.

Found a great new cable service called Turvi TV. It's like sling TV but has waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more channels. It also has local channels.
No credit check, no contract, and free DVR. Also, on top of all the cable channels (which includes premium channels), you even have access to a catalog of streaming TV shows and movies just like you do with Netflix. This is included in the service. The best part is the lowest package is only $30 but if you recommend the service to 5 people then yours is free for life.
