Can we all agree that many of these 18-23 year old kids need to be (1) drop kicked right out if their "safe spaces" and then (2) get punched in the throat?

I can't even fathom raising a child that turned out to be this whiny or entitled.

"You need a what...??? Safe space?!?!? I will safe space my foot right up your ass. Stop acting like a b!tch."

Anyhow...

UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT APOLOGIZES TO TRAUMATIZED STUDENTS For Allowing Cops To Sleep In Campus Housing During RNC…Makes Them Feel “Unsafe”

Students at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland were so traumatized by the prospect of sharing their campus with armed police officers during the Republican National Convention next week that the university has opted instead to essentially shut down for the week.

The students were incensed that school officials had agreed to allow police officers imported to maintain order during the convention to stay in campus housing. More than 300 of them signed an online petition demanding that, among other things, the “riot police” store their weapons off-campus between shifts, restrict themselves exclusively to the residence halls and abide by university rules regarding anti-discrimination and sexual harassment.

Some students even asked to be moved to alternative housing for the week, saying the increased police presence caused them to “fear for their safety” following the shooting deaths of two black men in Minnesota and Louisiana.

“I am scared and concerned for students of color, queer* and trans* students and all university community members at the mercy of an arbitrarily expanded police force without clear oversight or attachment to the community,” wrote one petitioner, Shannon Groll. “Please, protect CWRU as a safe space for all bodies.”

“I am deeply troubled by the presence – even temporarily – of a militarized police force on the CWRU campus,” wrote Keith Fitch. “The number one priority for an educational institution is to guarantee a safe environment for its students, faculty, and staff.”

Said petitioner Andrew Stark: “The institutionally-sanctioned presence of militarized police forces in an educational environment is unacceptable and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a gendered and racialized space, physically, socially and psychologically unsafe for persons belonging to marginalized groups.”

Police officials assured the students and administration that any officers using the University to bed down during the convention would take care to secure their weapons between shifts, and that officers would be on their best behavior while on campus, but that wasn’t enough.

Campus administrators, including the campus President Barbara Snyder, tried to take students into consideration and address student requests as best as possible, but Tuesday morning felt they could no longer handle the overwhelming sentiment among the student body and simply closed campus for the week of the RNC.

President Snyder apologized profusely in an email to the students who had been “hurt” when the college approved the city’s request to house officers. “[I]n answering the city’s convention request, we failed to give adequate consideration to the impact the decision would have on members of our community—in particular students staying in residence halls near the buildings housing the officers.”

Classes will now be held off-campus next week, on-campus summer camps have been rescheduled, and students who live on campus or are staying on campus for the summer will receive help finding alternate accommodations.

More here from the University President...

Snyder sent out a campus-wide email Monday afternoon regarding the forums.

What did the email say?

"The deadly shootings last week in Louisiana, Minnesota and Texas have dramatically intensified our national conversation involving race, law enforcement and the best paths to justice, fairness and safety for all," she wrote.

She wrote that CWRU had agreed to house the officers at Cleveland's request and the city's officers have assisted campus police when needed.

But Snyder admitted that "in answering the city's convention request, we failed to give adequate consideration to the impact the decision would have on members of our community—in particular students staying in residence halls near the buildings housing the officers."

Snyder also apologized for her campus-wide email on June 24 urging everyone to not stereotype all police officers as violent or prejudiced.

"Nevertheless, given the current national context, I regret that I described such behavior as 'profiling,' and that I was not more careful with my language," she wrote Monday.

She wrote that officials were planning to take additional steps to enhance campus safety during the convention.

Beef up "campus safety" to protect against police officers. Seems legit.

I wonder if pot prices on campus will fall as kids become afraid to spark up a reefer in their dorms, what with all those cops hanging around? Of course, all those cops might just be good for sellers of wet towels on campus.

Double the towels at the bottom of the door.....safety first!

Why are we so worried about protesters? All they have to do is make zero Pokemon available within a 20 mile radius of the convention. Problem solved.

Those kids are made-to-order for a socialist culture. Dependent insecure little sheep whining for a mommy kiss and a safe little pen.

I can imagine their first week of conscription filled with tears, tantrums and a few behind-the-barracks beat-downs by kids who live in reality and who won't tolerate that behaviour.....

Wrong. Bernie and Hillary preach it and they gobble it up. Daytime TV and sleazy lawyers bombard you with what you deserve because you breathe.
The second you change simple words from Welfare to Electronic Benefits (benefits-really) Transfer, from Assistance to Entitlement.

Words do have power. It's easy to cut welfare. It's had to get rid of a benefit.

What is worse than these college age children (an 18-year old with the real world experience of a 4-year old) demanding their "safe space" is the college administration's craven, cowardly act of giving in.

The administration should have told these whiners to suck it up as the real world is not going to give them anything but grief and a hard time and they may as well learn that lesson today.

As for the children, if they continued to protest, the administration should have given them a "time out" - the remainder of the semester and a requirement to complete their classes in another semester. If that means that their college education will take another year to complete, maybe these whiners will learn a valuable lesson. . . but probably won't.

The problem with that is that most likely, the majority of these young paragons aren't paying their own freight. The parents are likely footing the bill for college. Given their upbringing is one of entitlement from said parents, I don't think it would accomplish much.

I told both my kids at the start of college that if they did anything to get themselves put on any kind of probation or suspension, their college careers on my dime would be finished. Daughter has graduated, but my son knows without a doubt that if I found out he was part of some dumb protest, I'd be driving to Arkansas within the hour.

It's ok to fail sometimes too. You learn a lot.

Perhaps.

But when someone else is footing the bill for one's life, education and...in some cases...idiocy, the height that constitutes a reasonable fall and what circumstances surrounding said drop are considered acceptable tightens up considerably.

Believe me...they would get far more slack than I would have gotten.
