As many of you know (and Mrs. Colleen usually voices her envy) I am into working on PocketBikes. I've had one that I bought in Italy almost 17 years ago and have renewed my interest in them recently due to my activity with the Shriners.
Well, this one bike I got (traded a Wii I never used for it) needed some work on the motor and a new intake manifold. Well, the parts are fairly cheap. I found the intake manifold I needed listed at all but one site for $8.00. The last site had it listed for $2.00. I got to researching it and they are exactly the same parts. The same goes for the price difference on the gaskets.
Plus, these motors on the Chinese bikes are listed as 47cc motors. Of course the Chinese always tell the truth but in reality they are only 40cc. This same site I found everything cheap on had a complete upgrade kit to take it to 50cc for (get this) $10.00. That includes the head, all gaskets, the piston, rings, writs pin, jesus clips, and everything else that's needed.
What I want to know is HTF is this possible for this company to turn a profit. The parts are exactly the same as the other sites (same part number and all) and in some cases the die-hard pocket bike racers say this site sells a lot of superior quality products.
I'm also sure Mrs. DJ is going to be pissed if I spend too much more money on this hobby. Ehh... she has over 30 pairs of shoes (and I don't bitch too much), so I think it's safe to say I can have my fun with the pocket bikes. Plus, they keep me in the garage, out of public, and out of trouble. It's all good.
And, i know you're reading this, hun, so don't forget that I love you. I really, really do :D

Preaching to the choir.....:D
Over 20 years ago, I began making knives from kits.
Now, I damn near have a small machine shop that continually grows.

My wife asks me why I always want more and more tools. I ask the same thing about shoes and then run for cover in the garage

Yeah. She doesn't like to go completely crazy with this stuff. She has more fun shopping and looking around, I think.

I told my wife I was gonna buy a 50 lb little giant trip hammer, figuring she wouldn't know what it was.
She didn't.
Google did.
Still no trip hammer.

A lot of my ideas get the "retard" reaction. Guess that's one benefit of being married so I don't end up doing a "Here, hold my beer" maneuver to end up in the news.

Ehhh.... anything to keep me happily occupied is a good thing, though. Plus, one of my Lodge Brother's sons is into mechanics and doesn't get a lot of wrench time in his HS classes. I bring him over to help and then watch as he does all the preventive maintenance on his parents' vehicles. Changing out a thermostat was an exciting life altering even for this kid, but he did it correctly on the first try. His parents sure are glad that somebody has taken him under the wing who's not some gangstah bitch thug.

Heh Heh... all the parts I ordered for mods to do this next bike up are supposed to be in Friday. I've already got the frame painted and the fairings prepped. Frame is red. I'll paint the fairings a bright yellow with red lettering and then cover all that with a metallic clear coat (Shriner theme). It should be a monster capable of around 50 mph.
My neighbor owns a performance/tuning shop and ported the intake side of the carb for me today. Good thing I ordered some larger fuel jets (6 different sizes for $1.00 plus shipping).
Looks like it's time to order more shin guards :willy:
