PORTLAND, Ore. - Oregon police say both an intruder and a Portland homeowner phoned 911 to report the same thing: a strange man in a home.
Lt. Kelli Sheffer says the intruder told police he had just broken into a home Monday evening when the owner arrived - and the caller was worried the homeowner might have a gun.
Accompanied by his two German Shepherds, the homeowner found the intruder and asked what he was doing in the house. That's when the stranger locked himself in a bathroom and phoned police.
The homeowner called police with his account.
Sheffer says 24-year-old Timothy James Chapek, of Portland, was booked into jail for investigation of first-degree criminal trespass.

Probably should have considered that possibility prior to breaking into someone's home. :slap:

The owner better NOT,
Perhaps the intruder remembered that the only time you can shoot (and possibly get away with it)is when an intruder is if he is IN your home.....:D

As a follow-up, he was released from Washington County jail just hours before he broke into the home. City of Portland booked the guy, released him, and he didn't show up for his court date today.

I just hate it that there are so many stinking lazy losers who think suing someone for something that happens to them...(this is life) even if it was their fault.
It sickens me, and I would hope Oregon didn't support that.
Oregon is already supporting too many that aren't able to help themselves. :beggar:
I dont think Oregon is a Castle Law state .
[As of October 4 2007], the Castle Doctrine has become law in Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, North and South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, Alaska, Idaho, Missouri and Maine. . . . By far, the popular concept in those states has been the “stand your ground” approach that permits a homeowner to fire upon invaders at first sight.

Oregon isn't- but you are permitted to defend yourself in your own home if you feel your life/safety is being threatened. Sage advice from a Clackamas County Sheriff buddy of mine- if you shoot the intruder, make damned sure you kill him. Dead men don't file lawsuits, and they can't defend their actions.

Funny you mentioned that Poloar Bear. I was asking my son in law, he just said, he wasn't sure, but be darned sure you kill him...or he will sue you.
I didn't want to write that...but very glad you did. Thanks to both of you. :yesnod:

Sounds like he's looking for free room and board.
"I'm coming out of this bathroom with my shotgun!"
That's the last words he said, officer.
