Well ummm let's see, I tried being frugal and watched the car market very closely for about 6 months. Decided on a last generation Tahoe...went for a test drive decided I couldn't live with the 5.3L in Houston traffic, just too underpowered/unresponsive. Did more homework decided on a Yukon Denali or Escalade from the last gen, went on a few more test drives realized they don't have telescoping steering wheel and the fit for the driver just wasn't perfect for the kind of money a 2013 Denali was demanding. So we test drive the 2015 and 2016 tahoes of varying packages, decided it had to be an LTZ to give us the parking assistance and a few other misc features. Went on a few more test drives and really couldn't overcome the lack of power, for that kind of money I shouldn't have to worry when trying to merge into the highway. Sat on it for a few months watching for used prices to normalize. Went did all the test drives again, reconfirmed the new LTZ's even with the towing gear wasn't good enough. Out of frustration and curiosity we went and test drive a brand new Yukon Denali. Holy shit we found our car, excellent power and all the options we wanted. Went back to watching the used car market, and realized everything that offered enough savings had 40-50k miles on it and minimal warranty remaining.
Sooo I found two left over 2015's made an offer did a little haggling and yesterday drove to Dallas. Without much more rambling let me introduce to you the new whip Rollin on 22's
Edit: one thing I left out. Every time I stared at these things I bugged the ever loving shit out of Mullet. Massive thanks to him for all of his help and patience!

Have you seen the price of cars lately?! $36k for a reasonably equipped accord, 45k for a compact suv, prices are insane!
I will have to consolidate a little, my beater pick up and C6 are going to have to go.
The trucks getting a new abs pump before it gets listed, the C6 is listed on autotrader but I need to improve on the add some.

Yes I have. I'll never buy a brand new vehicle again.

I rented one of those, exactly like that for a long distance (2hours away) wedding, had it all day and the next.....LOVED IT! Lots of balls on the highway (had it up to 180kph and it was still pulling strong!) Creature comforts like a luxury liner, very quiet even with the huge tires as well. And it didn't even use as much fuel as we expected. Keeper for sure.....just be careful in the parking lots....that thing is deceptively big. :smash:

Congrats Chris! :cert: Sounds about like the same process we went through before we got to our 2013 Denali.
I wanted to spend Tahoe money but the 5.3 wasn't cuttin' it.
Towing kids, their stuff and a boat isn't working with a 5.3
Found this 2013 sitting new on a lot and worked out 22% off sticker which put us close to the price of a used 2010-11, which is what I was looking for.

At the Marcus compound 2 years ago getting a proper detail.

Did you negotiate in the price of a Coxswain to help you steer it?
Seriously...beautiful truck. What a beast tho...you might want to have a gas pump put in your yard.

Same here. At such time that I trade up, that's the route I'm going. I love knowing that some poor schmuck lost his shirt in depreciation. :yesnod:

Nah, the electric steering is quite responsive, with good feel. The turning radius is surprisingly good for how large the vehicle is. Karen couldn't drive the diesel, it was too big and well truck like, between the power, the steering, and the smooth ride, Karen has no problem driving this. :yesnod: We took it out yesterday for a few errands and really couldn't be happier with the purchase. At one point had 6 adults in the car with no problems.
First tank calculated out to 16.7mpg assuming they actually gave me a full tank, that's better than the diesel that it's replacing :yesnod: maybe by 2030 I'll drive a vehicle that averages better than 20mpg

Yes... and no. We bought used Expeditions and new Suburbans because one depreciates at a frightening rate, while the other barely makes shopping used worth it. Same story on my Camry- new '16 was only about a grand more than a used '15 with 30-40K daily rental miles on it. The Cadenza, on the other hand, was almost exactly 50 cents on the dollar- a year old and 17K miles later.

Having spent a few hours cleaning the truck today:
A.) holy crap black is hard to clean in direct sunlight
B.) found a few loose panels I'll be taking to a local dealership for repair asap
C.) My drivers door appears to be properly aligned, however there's evidence of rubbing within the door frame, not sure how that works, warranty claim I assume?
D.) The carpet is freakin cheap, my C5 has the nicest thickest carpet of any car I've seen (minus rolls and the likes), the C6 isn't as nice as the c5, but this Yukon is flat out cheap carpeting.
E.) found a few scratches on a tail light lense, not sure if I'll be able to buff it entirely out. What's acceptable minor scratches and damage for a 2400mile "New" vehicle?
I can't wait to get a clear bra installed.

I'll buy used for something practical, e.g., pickup truck, but I'm predisposed to getting a Sunday driver that's brand new.

After the 2012 Denali truck, I swore I would never EVER own another black car, especially not something that huge. You could detail every inch of it and by the time you leave the driveway it looks like crap again.
I wash the white truck every couple of months.

What size engine is in those newer Denali's? My Avalanche has a 5.3 and we tow a small, lightweight travel trailer with it. Considered replacing it with a 2500-sized truck (possibly diesel) in the future, but if the newer trucks have stronger engines, this may be an option for us.

Denali has 6.2 with 420 hp and 450 tq. A huge difference in power over the 5.3
it's the only reason I spent the extra cash because you can't get the 6.2 in the Tahoe or standard Yukon. At least in 2014 when I bought mine, you couldnt.

:iagree: except something surprising, the new Yukon/tahoes have a two speed transfer case option, this option technically increases the towing capacity. I suspect the magnetic ride may be part of the limiting factor too. Meaning the Denali does not receive the highest tow rating. That said, the power is light years over the 5.3L

Well, Scarlet is sold :-( I'll let the new owner post up.
I took the Denali in for warranty work, a few loose exterior panels and a vibrating noise. The panels and noises are fixed, BUT there's a few scratches showing up around my drivers door, clearly something's rubbing within the frame, but the stealer ship claims somebody tried using a slim Jim on the Yukon prior to my taking delivery. And they refused to deal with the scratches on a tail light, the other damage I found after I left the purchasing dealership.
I've reached out to the selling dealer to ask for assistance, and asked to speak with the local GM rep, I'm not convinced the door scratches are from a slim Jim, but I suspect it's a poorly aligned door. The tail light scratches just need to be buffed out, don't think it should have to be me, but not nearly a big deal as the paint damage around the drivers door. :banghead:
Otherwise we've put nearly 600 miles on her in the last week and a half and couldn't be more happy with the truck as a whole.
Beautiful machine! I like the stripped down version, and nobody messes with me on the road.

Enjoyed the drive home. Now just have to remember that this is a good weather/weekend driver and not take it to work every day. :willy:
Thanks Chris!
