When I was in Japan at the Hiroshima memorial I saw pictures like that. They were indeed sad to see.

Yes, sad. Sad that Japan started a war that killed 36 million people (http://www.pwencycl.kgbudge.com/C/a/Casualties.htm) and forced the United States to drop not one, but two nukes on them before ending the tyranny and war crimes of a nation who's bloodlust exceeded even Nazi Germany. I guess their emperor wasn't a god after all and they weren't the superior race they thought they were. By the way, to this day, Japan still omits the war crimes it committed in the Sino-Japanese War and World War II from its schools history books. Very sad indeed.

Meanwhile, Obama wants to formally apologize to Japan for ending their reign of terror.

My dad is top middle in this pic taken around 1937. All of the men in this picture went to war against the Japanese. Only dad came home.

He firmly believed that if he had made the main Island invasion, which would have been his 4th, he would not have come home.

That picture saved his and millions of other lives on both sides.

I'm not really educated on history, but without the US intervention, would there have been an eventual battle between Japan and Germany? Were there any engagements between the two?

Would Japan have been crushed? U.S. Nukes aside, they had far more tenacity and commitment to their cause in my opinion, than the Germans.

I'm not really educated on history, but without the US intervention, would there have been an eventual battle between Japan and Germany? Nope. And there was no long term ideas between them had they won. Were there any engagements between the two? Nope. None I' aware of.

Would Japan have been crushed? Draw I'd say. U.S. Nukes aside, they had far more tenacity and commitment to their cause in my opinion, than the Germans.

While I'm no fan of Obama, I don't think this is quite accurate...

Barack Obama said on Sunday his visit to Hiroshima, the first city to suffer an atomic bombing, would emphasize friendly ties between former enemies. But the US president reiterated he would not apologize for the devastating attack.

Obama will become the first sitting US president to tour the site of the world’s first nuclear bombing this Friday, accompanied by Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe.

In an interview with Japanese national broadcaster NHK, Obama said the reality is that leaders often have to make hard choices during times of conflict and no apologies would be included in brief remarks he is expected to make in the western Japanese city.

“It’s important to recognize that in the midst of war, leaders make all kinds of decisions, it’s a job of historians to ask questions and examine them,” Obama said.

Actually Japan and Germany were allies...both part of the Axis powers. There were interactions between them but no formal transfer of weapons or materiel so far as we know.

The US and it's allies would have eventually defeated the Japanese because Japan lacked the kinds of resources necessary to engage in a prolonged conflict. That and the fact that...sad as this is to say...we had a bigger population. Like Russia, we simply had more people to throw at them.

Well...I think that we get so far into the "I hate <insert despicable politician here>" that we tend to immediately believe anything negative that we hear, whether there's a thread of truth to it or not. That's dangerous no matter what side of the political spectrum you're on.

Yet he said nothing about not bowing. He's got a track record of that, too.

Even as allies, unless they drafted an agreement on how the world would be divided, it would seem conflict was inevitable for two groups wanting world dominance.

I think they would reach an accord that the Japanese Empire controls Australia and Asia from the Pacific Ocean west to Afghanistan, Ural, and Middle East. The Third Reich would be Europe, Africa, and South America. Japan gets 9 armies per turn, and Germany gets 10 armies per turn.

I have been to Japan a couple of times, and like the people, but I promise you, they got what they had coming. They made Isis look like a pack of Nuns. They were as brutal as they come, and bet your last damn dollar, the Chinese have not forgotten. So we had to roast a few of them. There are others out there that could stand a good roastin' too, and you would be amazed how their attitude changes....:yesnod:
