The driver accused of striking a flagman Wednesday along Route 24 was identified after she posted the damage to her vehicle on Facebook, York Area Regional Police said.
After police issued information about the hit-run that happened around 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, they received a tip about a Facebook post in which a vehicle with damage matched the description they gave, said Chief Timothy Damon.
Police obtained a written statement from the driver who made the post, and Damon said he expects charges to be filed, with the investigation is continuing.
Damon said the driver said she heard a loud thud but didn't know what she had struck, pulled over after exiting the coned area, panicked and left the scene.
Witnesses told police a small maroon four-door vehicle traveling north veered off the construction coned roadway in the 2900 block of Cape Horn Road (Route 24), and struck the flagman, knocking him to the ground.
The flagman, who was working during road construction, recalled hitting a passenger side mirror, causing it to hang, police said. He was taken to Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
Damon said he knows other departments have made arrests with the help of information on Facebook. "This is maybe one of the first ones we've done where we've been able to identify someone so quickly," he said.
