Our typical 1-mile courses take between 65-75 seconds for the fast cars. Very RARELY do we have a car touch 59 seconds.

After setting up today's course, I took 2 laps, one in a shit NC Miata and 1 in a turbo charged 350 Z.

Miata...55 seconds
350 Z...49 seconds

I think we may see a triple digit speed tomorrow. :D

Sounds like a blast Craig. :waiting: For the vids.

Have fun. Stay safe. Kick ass!!! :cert:

Perhaps you'd like to borrow my mountain bike to make it more fair?

Highest speed seen today was 118 mph.

Fortunately, it turned out to be a safe, fun event. Will upload some vids soon. The supercharged Miata I've been racing for the past 2 years was WAY under powered. I took 1 lap in a 2016 Z06 on bad street tires and still beat my Miata time by 8/10ths.

Just for a frame of reference, I NEVER get out of 2nd gear in this Miata. You'll see very quickly after the first few turns that I go into 3rd gear and keep accelerating. Miata was under powered today. I ran a faster time in a C7 Z06.

:23 :funnier:

I'd guess the Miata has a LOT less rubber on the ground as well. I'd think that power would be of greater benefit in a tighter course where powering out of slow corners would be critical.
Of course I know only 2 things about this style of motorsport; jack and sheit.

On the tighter courses, this car rocks. He has 10" rims and 275 mm rubber on all 4 corners. You can hear that I'm in the upper echelon of 3rd gear on this track. I've never gotten out of 2nd gear on a course in his car in the past year.

Fastest lap was set by my other co-driver in his 2016 991 Turbo S. He ran a 47.2. My Z06 as it sits coming back to life, would likely be a high 45 second lap on this track. :yesnod:

I was worried about the speeds with the riff raff, and we had a few people spin and/or slide off into the grass, but the extra high speed was well received by all drivers and everyone went home safely. :hurray:

This lap was 2 seconds slower than his fastest lap. Camera battery died. :slap:

Everything I know about this would fit in a thimble with room to spare. I have a question; How long does a set of tires last you?

Any video of spins, blow-ups or crashes?
That's the only reason that I watch racing. :D

A $2,000 set of race tires on my car lasts exactly 36 laps at this track. That's roughly 3 Sundays with 2 drivers, or 6 with 1. :yesnod:

1 lap = 1 mile.

My right front tire blew on my last lap. Will have to dig to see if I got it on video. I think I did. :yesnod:

I'm watching the GT Sprint Series from Brands Hatch Great Britan right now...
Good stuff on CBSSN right now.:drivingskid:

And Audi wins with Mercedes and McLaren following. Great racing. :seasix:

Craig, I would normally never say this.

But that was not an autocross. A small slalom followed by a 180 degree turn into a three? part slalom? The difficulty on that is zero. What fun is that? Go fast? That is the most boring course I have ever seen. What were you thinking? :island14:

I was thinking FAST. It was fast, and it was FUN!!! Everyone had fun, and we won't do another one like this for at least another 2-3 years. It was road racing on an airstrip.

So on average would you say you need tires every 2 maybe 3 months? Thats gotta get on the expensive side not to mention the car itself will need repairs and whatnot.

I get it though. Hobbies cost money. Fun hobbies cost a lot of money. :yesnod:

Craig, are you running under SCCA Pro Solo, Solo I or Solo II rules? If under Solo II that track should never have been approved by a Safety Steward as it clearly exceeded the maximum speed permitted (70 mph).

If under Solo I or Solo II rules, what class is your Z06 in? I would presume that it should be SS/P based upon the mods to the car that I have seen in your garage.

Ben,

We are a private club not bound by anybody's rules, but we do use the SCCA car classes. I haven't decided whether I'll run in SSP or SSM when the car is back running. Not sure if a cam kicks me out of SSP or not.
