View Full Version : So How Do You Buy a Freakin Pillow?

I have a Tempurpedic pillow that's old & crumbling inside. It was already replaced under warranty; it's a POS, don't want another.
Went to Bed Bath & Beyond, and pilows cost from $10 to $200.
Down has historically been the premium product, but are any of the alternatives better? We bought a couple of down pillows for $120 each, and we'll see what they feel like. (BB&B will take anything back)
Just curious about others' experiences. :cert:

I'm an easy sell on a pillow. I just need to be able to flatter it out to about 1/4 inch, and I'm all set. :hurray:
Mrs Utah got me one of the "gel" pillows a few years ago. Stays cool all night.

I have a gel pillow. It's about 2-years-old and falling apart. It cost $84, and it's a POS. Before I threw it away, it started leaking gel in small round thingies that stuck to my hair and skin. I don't think that technology has caught up to the deterioration of gel pillows.

I find down pillows get lumpy and hard, plus they are hot. I give my prospective head cradles the "hug test". If the pillow resists crushing when hugged it is probably firm enough for support. I also replace my pillows twice a year or so as I tend to smash them into submission each night. I think my last pillow purchase set me back about $12.00 at the Waldo-mart.

Anyone try those "Bamboo" pillows ?
You're all a bunch of weirdos. I get my pillows the same place I get my towels.....Motel 6.

Years ago I got a buckwheat husk pillow and still use it to this day. It stays cool and forms to whatever shape you like. Check out this link, but there are lots of links to them discussing pros and cons. I really like mine.

We have them. They are cooler. The interesting part is that the packaging has a disclaimer that they are not made from real bamboo! :island14:

My wife bought us a couple of these. I like 'em. Bonus points for being washable.

OK, the new down pillows @ $120 were POSes. Flattened out to nothing, which I don't like. Bed Bath & Beyond "Palais Royale", FWIW.
Returned them, bought some others; we'll see how that goes.

Some time ago, wife and I got a two/fer one deal off TV....cost about 100 bux, and in two weeks I did not notice much difference, and wife didn't either....
NOW the rest of the story, they came really compressed in the box, and so I did not follow directions about putting them in the cool air fluff cycle of the clothes dryer but fluffed them up by hand......
we felt it was no improvement, I have a terminal spinal arthritic condition...the wife is having a sore back/spine also...damnit....
I wonder enough as we have tried all sorts of crap, and nothing helps....
wondering about another chance....:issues: Kant Win......
