View Full Version : No More Stonewalling: Harriet Tubman to Replace Jackson on US $ 20 Bills
Harriet Tubman to replace Andrew Jackson on $20, treasury announces
Updated 12 mins ago
Abolitionist Harriet Tubman will be featured on the new $20 bill, a representative of the U.S. Treasury Department confirmed Wednesday. This is in lieu of the department's original plan to replace Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill.
The plan is to issue the new bills by 2020 in honor of the 100th anniversary of women winning the right to vote. Last June, it was announced that a woman would replace Hamilton, the first treasury of the secretary, on the $10 bill. The treasury department solicited ideas for which woman that should be by launching #TheNew10 campaign.
The discussion about putting women on U.S. currency first gained traction thanks the Women on 20s campaign. That campaign held a poll last May asking people to vote on which woman they would want to see. Tubman received the most votes, followed by Eleanor Roosevelt. That poll received more than half a million votes. Roosevelt was favored in an August Marist poll.
Since the announcement last June, the leaders of the Women on 20s campaign have maintained that a woman should be on the $20 bill, not the $10.
The change to the plan also follows the popularity of Hamilton, the hit Broadway musical which follows the life of the Founding Father, which opened last August. The creator and star of the show, Lin-Manuel Miranda, tweeted in March after visiting the White House that Treasury Secretary Jack Lew thought Miranda would be satisfied with the plan.
I talked to @USTreasury about this on Monday. Sec. Lew told me "you're going to be very happy." #wegetthejobdone https://t.co/ZkLFuSmz8M

Jackson defeated Jean Lafitte and the pirates at New Orleans, but was brought down by political correctness. :sadangel:

Obama is slated to appear on a bill as well. He will be on the negative three trillion dollar bill.
As long as it's still worth $3.18*, I don't care who's image is on it.

So Andrew Jackson, Proud slave holder and founder of the Democratic party, is being replaced by Harriet Tubman, Proud Republican and 2nd Amendment supporter.

Andrew Jackson was known as "Old Hickory" while Thomas J. Jackson was called "Stonewall". Both were Generals but in different wars almost 50 years apart.
Jackson’s portrait appears on the $20 bill although he detested paper money.
Chastened by a financial hit he once took from devalued paper notes, Jackson was opposed to the issuance of paper money by state and national banks. He only trusted gold and silver as currency and shut down the Second Bank of the United States in part because of its ability to manipulate paper money. It’s ironic that Jackson not only appears on the $20 bill, but his portrait in the past has also appeared on $5, $10, $50 and $10,000 denominations in addition to the Confederate $1,000 bill.
He was also inspiration for the song

Gotta love the reactions though... On Monday none of these people could have answered "who is on the $20" without Googling... on Wednesday, they've got degrees in Early American History with their masters thesis being titled "Andrew Jackson: Yeah, So What, Everybody Owned Slaves In Them Days"...
no matter who or what the government puts on the currency, they still want more of it out of my pocket than i think is proper.

But that's not a requirement. Benjamin Franklin was not ever elected President either.

Well it was difficult but they found another person just as ugly as queen sasquatch obunghole to ruin our $20 bill. A good chance many of her people will not know who she is or actually give a shit!
Of course its on the wrong thing, would be much more appropriate on a EBT card!
instead of trying to turn sinners into saints, how about we put ideas or critters on our money. Lady Liberty, bears, eagles, whales, mountain lions, elk, deer, wolverine, badgers, humming birds.....the list is far longer than the list of purely honorable americans without some sort of fault in their past that someone can object to.

Hard part of putting Kim Kardashian on currency is how to make the back of the bill that much bigger...

Oops! You're right. I blame old age and a sick day in jr. high for the mix up.

OK, I stand corrected. Franklin and Hamilton still earned their place in history.
Suffragettes, abolitionists, and other pc approved persons have no place on our money.
How about pictures of America's symbols, natural wonders, native animals, MOH recipients,
etc?

Think that's bad ? Read about the guy my old ship was named after-Samuel Gompers. I'm sure Air traffic controllers are thrilled to work at Washington Reagan airport.
No matter what the name or picture there is on something, it still serves it's designed purpose.

What you say is true, but that's back when Republicans and Democrats were the polar opposites of what they are today. Remember that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and Democrats were in favor of slavery.

The idea reportedly came from a nine-year-old White girl, according to media reports.

Portraits on currency? How is that necessary?
Regardless of WHO is depicted, there are those who believe it should be someone else.
How about no portraits at all?
