My Dad used a similar technique often under the hood of his air-cooled, 1971 VW 412 Squareback sedan.

On fishing trips, he'd wrap burgers, brats and hotdogs in aluminum foil and lay them on top of the engine's giant air intake.

By the time we arrived at the fishing hole, lunch was ready! :D

He even had a copy of the VW Camper Cookbook that featured 80 original air-cooled engine recipes.
