View Full Version : I was Chastised Yesterday for Having Old Beer

So yesterday, my guys are over at the house after work, and I offer them Bud Lights that I have in the fridge for people with no taste in beer. One of them, a new hire, comments that this is old beer, he can taste that it's old. Sure enough, the "born on" date on the cans was 2015. OK, I offer an alternative, either Shiner Black Label or Shiner Blonde. No, the Bud Light was fine, he just wanted to let me know that the beer was old.

Fast forward. OK, so I decide to have a beer after work, so I grabbed a St. Arnold's......their Octoberfest variety. Uh, yeah, those may have been in the fridge for a while, too. Tastes fine to me though.

You know how Kraft isn't allowed to call Velveeta "cheese", they have to call it "processed cheese food product"... InBev shouldn't get to call Budweiser products "beer"...

:funnier::funnier: Around the age of 8, my dad gave me a glass of Bud thiking I'd not drink it. I did. 55 years later I still like Bud. I also like Tin Man Csar, but Im not a snob about it.:cert:

Quit having old beer in your fridge. BoracayJohnny is bad enough about keeping vintage beer that you leave at his house. Not that I don't still drink plenty enough of mass produced beers, but there are way too many really "good" beers out there that I usually keep them on hand. Everything I've had from Stone Brewing has been great, Sweetwater Brewing here in Ga makes some mighty tasty brew, and Dragon's Milk Stout if you've never sampled that. At 11% it will grab ya by the boo boo in a hurry. Beer is a breakfast food....right??:D

I don't know the smell itself makes it hard to drink

Safe for what? For pouring on your lawn? Maybe.

Seriously though, after about three months most domestic beer starts to get crappier than it already is. Your decent craft beers, well, about the same. Now you can drink them after months past this, but it's like eating stale bread. It won't make you sick, but it's not very appealing. When I open a bottle of wine that is corked, I dump it out. Sure, that sucks, but it doesn't happen often. If you open an "old beer" and it tastes bad (I call it green) then just immediately discard it. It can make you pretty sick actually.

So, you are saying that my 30 something unopened original can of Rock and Roll beer might not be any good? Damn, just damn.

That's better than arriving at your inlaws ranch only to find they quit stocking beer or sodas all together :banghead:

I like beers from both. I knew you were in one of those places, just couldn't remember which. I had some Pirminator beer from Germany several years ago that I really liked. Beer is good!!!!!!:datawiz:

Funny thing is, I love to drink beer, but can do without alcohol all together if I have to. That said, I can't live without coffee. My dumb ass forgot to have caffeine on a long flight a few years ago, and I got a headache so bad I thought I was going to die. Had a cup of coffee when I realized what I had done to myself, and within 20 minutes all was right with the world again. You might want to get off the back forty and head into town for a cup of Joe...:yesnod:

I admit that I have a problem, which is the first step to recovery. However, I have been unable to find a support group for people who don't drink enough. Plenty for the other way, though.

I drink a beer on Saturday. It was good. I wanted another one, but my son wanted me to "make big bubbles".

So I rigged up a system of strings and sticks to make 2' wide bubbles and he ran around popping them as fast as I could make them.

Won't be long and I will have to make bubbles for two little guys and won't even have time for the one beer.

That's ok. They will grow up fast and it is just fun hearing the giggles and showing them that a few cuts and bruises are normal after a day of playing outside

All they have here is El Presidente. It's surprisingly good if you like a good Pilsner.
