FYI the Bothans died to get the plans for the 2nd Death Star, not the first. :D

It was a reference to Mon Mothma, who spoke that line in Return Of The Jedi and appears in this trailer...

Trust me, there ain't much Star Wars film lore/trivia I don't know. I've been tested many times...
