15 karts this year.
Well, we "almost" repeated as #1 overall. We improved in our weakest area from last year by winning the presentation...by a large margin.
We finished 2nd in the speed race, and would have handily won the endurance race, thus winning overall, but we threw a chain after the first lap, and thought we were done. In the pits we got the chain reinstalled, and threw it 2 more times in the middle of the 2nd driver's run. Again, thinking we were completely out of it, and ready to shut it down, we put the chain back on and quit hitting the yellow reflectors on the road surface. We lost EASILY 15 minutes in the endurance race and we STILL finished 6th of 15 karts.
So,
1st in the presentation
2nd in the sprint race
6th in the endurance race
We don't know our overall position yet for all 3, but I think it's a good bet that we were #2 over all.
Sad way to go out in G's final year, but still glad that we blew away the judges in the presentation. Changing gears in between races is what killed us. :sadangel:

Why do you think you threw the chain so often?

Was it because the rear axle kept moving around? I thought that GWiz and Kurt had found and fixed that problem?
Also, how did the interlopers who won the speed event do that? Nothing in last years results would have indicated that anyone could tie last year's speed much less BVHS' 36 mph for this year.
Why do you think you threw the chain so often?

I totally could have fixed the chain issue. 5 years of racing karts, you figure out everything about chains

Very disappointing. :sadangel:
With all of the money and expertise that you guys threw at it, help me understand here...
You changed the gears, and therefore, that cost you the overall win?
What was the team's impetus for doing this and why dd the gear switch fail?

19 tooth sprocket was for speed, which was good, even though we got beat by 1 kart. 17 tooth sprocket was for endurance (lower top speed, but longer longevity). We gambled, and we lost. If the chain had not fallen off, we would have won it all.

So who won?
Are you gonna post the results?
Let me get this straight?
You guys were that far ahead that you still came in second after your chain derailed?
What actually happened?
Were you able to still coast across the finish line after the failure occured?

We came in 2nd in the sprint race, we had no issues in that race. We came in 6th of 15 in the race where we lost the chain. I won't have the results until the university posts them on their website.

Glad she presented well. Sucks azz about the chain but I know that's the game sometimes. :cert:
While 1st place is nice the kids can also learn a lot by losing. I know I have.
