Just taught Iron Chef's kiddos both to drive stick. :hurray:

They practiced in the Lowe's parking lot, then his daughter drove the approximately 4 miles home.

Very cool you taught them Liz! Now they can drive dad's Challenger. :leaving:

I love that Camaro, the white stripes are stunning on the blue! How do you like the V-6 and 6-speed combo?

:drivingskid: A very nice thing to do. And you were smart to do it while the clutch is still under warranty. :D

Whenever I've taught someone to drive standard, I get them to pay to rent a stick car for the day. Damned if I'm going to let my clutch take a noobie burning the miles off it!.....

The one great thing the politicians done in Illinois, is the requirement of extended hours of Driving Training. It has dramatically reduce the number of deaths in younger drivers. In addition, it has required the patents to be involved.

The roads are safer for everyone when proper training is employed.

I still maintain that the best "first car" for every kid should be an old VW Bug. Not that new Beetle BS either. One of the older, pre-75 ones.

Dirt simple to operate and maintain, cheap to insure, great on gas, very low center of gravity, handles well, has just enough power to get moving but not so much as to get them INTO trouble. And, most importantly, no amenities! They will appreciate their next car sooo much more!

Let them have that for a year before moving up into other vehicles with more "stuff" to it. They will learn what it takes to be a responsible motorist easier.

Harder to do these days Rob. Most places do not even rent stick cars anymore. And the drivers ed classes charge double to learn the manual trans.:confused5:

Nice of you to do Liz.

Yeah, there's that!

I love both his kids, and they were all over for the night. We left Kevin and IC at home and went to run some errands, then decided to do driving lessons, too. :)

Oh, and I let his son drive the Jeep. He's wanting his "own" vehicle really bad, and a Jeep is the coolest thing possible for a high school guy!

What does that have to do with learning to drive a standard transmission vehicle?

Yes...they went out on what was supposed to be a 15 minute trip to Wal-Mart. After an hour, Kevin and I are like "did they go to Wal-Mart in Cleveland?"

My son needs something else that starts with a J. A JOB.

Went to Cars and Coffee this morning. I took the Super Bee. Speaking of shifting...when I got home in my driveway, I was pushing the gearshift in the Bee into 3-4 without engaging the clutch and it wasn't catching. I think I screwed up a shift rod.

Oh...Kevin and I watched the movie "Downfall." For those who remember, I used a clip from that movie for my famous video about the mods at CF with English subtitles. The actual film is awesome but WOW...one of the most intense movies I've ever seen.

Great movie, one of my favorites. Your version and the original. Your boy should work camp staff.

He can't. He's doing this thing called "Performance Course" Basically they lift and run all summer to prepare for football season. I though it was a little silly, but you should see him now. He's really cut for a kid his age.

He's going to Twin Arrows in summer though. AND...I finished my Wood Badge. Get my beads at the next Court of Honor in April. :D

 and

I'm getting a lot of pressure to do wood badge myself. I haven't been through it, mainly because I wanted to take a dump in the hat of the guy who ran wood badge at the last council I was a part of. He was a real piece of work. This council is better...

I've been asked to be on National Camp School Staff again... I need to find more time in the week. :willy: :willy:

Is Twin Arrow = NYLT? That's a good program. If your boy gets a chance to go to NLS through Order of the Arrow, I'd highly encourage it. Some of the best leadership training I've ever been to.

Yeah it's NYLT. He's going for OA Brotherhood at Camporee in April. You'd really like Wood Badge. It's great training and quite a bit of fun.

Looks like daughter's doing it again this year.
