So my 13 year old daughter just came home from school with a bouquet of flowers from some boy at school. Im not sure what to think. She is my first girl (the second came along 20 minutes after her) so I dont have any experience with these little 'relationships' they are having. I dont think I bought a girl flowers until I was about 25. I am going to start doing some background checking on this kid. just basic stuff like address and phone number, where he goes to church, what he wants to be when (if) he grows up. I already got his first and last name. Any of you older fathers have any advice? What about some of you ladies? I only had one older sister growing up and I dont remember her dating until she was in highschool. My younger sisters didnt date at all until after I left for the Marines..Not sure why.

Remind the boy of your "Crazy cousin Bart" who kills small animals as a hobby, but really wants to branch out into the murder for hire business. :datawiz:

You know what they say about kids.

With a boy you only worry about 1 dick, with a girl you worry about every dick!:D

Go up to him and whisper in his ear......"By the way in case you get any ideas.....whatever you do to my daughter, I'm going to do to you." Then smile and walk away. :D

If you raised your daughter to make good choices and be a good judge of character (which I'm sure you have), you have nothing to worry about.

I have decided I will trust, until I have a reason not to trust. They are good kids. Honor roll in the academically gifted program at school. I will just keep a fatherly eye on things.

And keep the guns clean.

Spot on. :yesnod:
My daughter, about the same age as yours, has boys she thinks are "cute" etc and I don't make a big fuss over it although I do pay attention to who they are and what they're about.

I always remind myself that kids will do things their parents won't know about. It's my job to make sure those "things" aren't harmful to her permanently.
The rest they're going to have to learn on their own; and that's the hard part.

Every parent wants to protect their kids from every mistake and life doesn't work that way.

I do know I've seen parents try to step in hard on their teens and that almost always results in pushing them to do it more.

I have 2 teen daughters. I tell the boys "I have 5 acres, a shovel and an alibi. Be good now, you hear?" They don't know if kidding or not. I'm not.

True story. My sister is 4 years younger than I, and my father met each first date she had for quite awhile with an over and under shotgun broken over his forearm. That stopped only when her now husband walked in and said "Winchester 101? 20 gauge? Sweet!" They have been married 20 plus years now.

HAAA! Yes. Actually we were discussing him this weekend and I realized I had met the kid, and his father at a Veterans day ceremony they had at their school. The kids dad was the only other Marine in attendance so I talked to him for quite a while. I told her that was worth one point for the boy.

Here is a slightly older photo. I think they were 12 or so? At least this is how they look to me at 12. The one on the Left is the one with the 'boy friend'.
