View Full Version : iPad 2 sends competitors scrambling
Samsung is now re-evaluating its newly-announced Galaxy Tab 10.1, considering making some changes to "inadequate" hardware and revising their pricing model.
Samsung sees iPad 2 thinness, price as challenge (http://www.physorg.com/news/2011-03-samsung-ipad-thinness-price.html)
 <-- pint of Kool-Aid
Though I'm not sure how the other tablet manufacturers can sell their products at as low of a price as Apple.
Well at least we've moved beyond the "iPad is overpriced" argument.

:iagree: they should give me a free one and I will talk about how awesome it is.

I didn't say it wasn't over priced.
Just that the competition couldn't get down to Apple's level.
They (the tablet segment) look like neat toy devices, but aren't really for mass enterprise adoption yet, IMHO.
Have you seen Apple's new "JointVenture" program? They are setting up infrastructure to supply enterprise apps, service and support. Its coming.
If they can demonstrate to business that iPads can work as the client interfaces in a client/server situation where 90% of the work is a dedicated app, a simple email communication or a means to handle the front end of a mainframe program then some folks in Redmond better really hope that the XBox remains profitable.
Holding out to see what the iPad 3 brings to the table before I jump into the tablet market.

Damn, if you want it now, buy it now.
Replace with newer model later...

If history is any indicator it works like this - Apple comes out with a game changing product, the next cycle refines it really well. The next version offers performance upgrades and then the 4th generation changes it again.
They did this on Macs for years, then iPods and then the iPhone.
I'm betting this will be good for a year and then next spring or summer we'll see a 4G LTE network version once AT&T and Verizon get some build out.
I still remember being ridiculed and mocked at CFOT when I said that the iPad would become a huge hit with business.
I still remember people putting up the comparison picture of a stone tablet against the iPad.
Such genius demonstrated by the haters.
I can't wait to get the iPad 2.
BTW: 1st gen iPad for sale. 64gb 3G with the thick leather case. $500.

I'm going to buy the iPad 3 (one in each color) too. Once I have an iPad3 in each hand, I can use my iPad2's as shoes.

The iPad is overpriced and there's no market for it. It's an iPhone that's too big, a laptop that's too small, and doesn't do as much as a netbook.
The iPad will be a failure!

uses that I have seen for the iPad that either are, or could be business related.
1. my uncle has one to hold all of his flying charts/maps. It works great on a cross country flight and they have a leg pad for it that works just like a paper chart would.
2. Have seen them used by several large companies doing surveys at displays (mountain dew was testing new flavors at a music festival).
3. i could see it as a great "paper elimination device", picture anyone who goes out in the field with a clipboard; inspectors, service writers, etc.
It's not a huge hit.
It's found a place in niche areas.
I disagree. Then again, what do I know. :D

They sold 15 million iPads in nine months.
Can you name any consumer product that has been that successful?
Believe me, I'm no iKoolaid drinker.
I don't own any Apple products other than a 4 year old iPod that was given to me as a gift (and never use) :D

Clearly a man with a plan.

I use it at home and in the office, better than taking Laptops to meeting.
Also works great when I take the train into the city.
