44° & cloudy here.
It was a great move to move the race up a week. One week makes a huge weather difference in Florida.

We've had this discussion, and Jeff, I consider you a friend. That said, like so many other things, Nascar has ruled itself to death, the cars and their drivers have essentially 0 identity with anyone. It's a bunched up field of identical cars that shouldn't even be allowed in the series and a Nascar race could put me to sleep faster than a truck load of Xanax. I realize that we cant' turn time back, but there is a reason the stands aren't filled up any more. They know it, but won't admit to their own failures as a sanctioning body. I caught a few minutes of it, but it damn sure wasn't worth a few hours of my life. I'm not entirely trying to bash, I just wish they would see the error of their ways and fix it, but unfortunately that car has left the garage.

Ya, ya, ya...We'd be beating a dead horse. Like the NFL, NBA, NHL,US Gov, all have run their course but we are stuck with them.
It seems fantasy NASCAR keeps it interesting for a lot of people though. No, it's not the same, but nothing is these days.
It is what it is and it just gets old hearing about how bad it is because actually, it's not as bad as nothing.

Yes I do feel better. Nascar used to be awesome until they collectively abandoned their fan base, and threw every pos with wheels into the field. If I've said it once, I've said it a million times, there is just nothing to identify with anymore. With the exception of a very small minority of drivers, most of these guys have been spoon fed from the get go, and hell, some of them still aren't any good. Sometimes, grittier drivers with actual opinions, and race cars that look like their civilian counterpart is a good thing. I used to love Nascar, but yesterday I had some paint to watch dry......

What color paint? Do you find the lighter colors tend to dry more quickly than the darker colors or is it just an illusion?

For example, Rapture Blue tends to dry quicker than Concord Grape.

Of course it's a public forum. Of course different opinions are always welcome.

Now, why the compelling need to piss on the same topic over and over?

i.e. Anytime someone posts about chocolate chip cookies a member feels the need to say they hate chocolate chip cookies. Why? After the first 10 times we understand you don't like them. Beyond that it is being negative for the sake of being negative.

If you or anyone else wants to continue to talk about how much you hate chocolate chip cookies then by all means, start a thread and go to town!!!

Nobody is stopping anyone from starting a thread about disliking NASCAR.

I hold the exact same opinion of NASCAR as others here do that it's boring as shit now. Having said that, yesterday's race, especially the finish, were very fun to watch.

Regardless of that, the biggest reason it was fun for me again, for the first time in about 15 years, is that I'm playing Fantasy NASCAR with you misfits.

The "challenge" to win adds a whole new dimension to watching the sport. :datawiz:

The "challenge" to win adds a whole new dimension to watching the sport. :datawiz:

My $0.02.

A lot of people experience the same thing with the NFL. Fantasy sports add a whole new element of entertainment.

She did, but Biffle could have given a 1/4 lift that would have kept himself out of the wall. Only 2 cars behind him it wouldn't have caused an incident. Only 16 to go nobody is lifting and everybody is blocking. It was just a racing incident.

He had a massive run. He held a line. She was tried to block WAY too late. That is 100% on her.

And no, it has nothing to do with Danica hate. I would say the exact same thing if it was the other way around.

If I'm going to make fun of her, it would be for this one... when she wrecked all on her own for absolutely no reason at all during the duels... pay attention. In the first view you can see her car come into the frame, already slowed down. She gets clear of the wreck, stands on the gas, and puts it in the infield. Oopsie.

Here's another viewpoint...

:iagree:
There are great races, there are good races, and there are really boring races.
Fantasy NASCAR. Adds an element that makes every race interesting, not necessarily good, but interesting..
Same with football. The Bills blow goats, but with FF, the entire league interests me.

I don't know, man. I always get bored with fantasy. Too many stats to keep track of. Too much tv to watch. But hey, if thats what you're into then party on Wayne.

Pffft....Stats???.....I just guess.

You're the guy who closes his eyes and points to the race horses in the program, huh? I respect your dangerous lifestyle.

I like Chocolate Chip Cookies and Milk.. :datawiz:

If it was on TV here I'd watch it.. I'd watch anything Racing, Sprints, Midgets, Stock Cars even Dirt Cars makes no difference to me.

I just like racing.. :island14:

I do like Road Course Racing also, but feel like Oval Track Racing is more spectator friendly as you can see the whole race track without leaving your seat.

I have to admit with NASCAR that now over the years about all of the names and faces have changed and I don't know who over half of them are anymore so makes it less interesting to me.

Probably why I don't comment much in most of these threads..

But a few of the names I remember long before they ever made it to NASCAR..

So how old does it make you feel to see Jeff Gordon RETIRED and Bill Elliott's kid replacing him in the car? :willy:

I feel extremely old. I watched Gordon in the Baby Ruth car, and saw his first Cup race. :willy:

I also just like racing. Not really even into nascar to be honest. I don't think the discipline matters to those of us who know what it feels like to hold down the throttle and pray it sticks.

Same here. Going up the uphill esses at Watkins Glen side by side puts your heart in your throat. Imagine doing that for 4 hours straight on a raceway at 200 MPH. The car control those guys know is second to none. F1 doesn't do it. IMSA to a small extent. Air does funny things when other cars are around you. This is why NASCAR fascinates me.

I always get a chill going through there. That's where he was killed.

<------

The guard rail right?

Gozar
02-23-2016, 5:32pm
Correct. He landed upside down on top of the guardrail over the tunnel. Some folks say he hit the curbing on the left which threw him into the guardrail on the right. He bounced off that and landed upside down on the opposite side. Some say he just lost it. He left the car in 4th even though Jackie told him to upshift to 5th because the car was difficult to control at the crest in 4th. No one told Francois that Jackie was retiring after the race. He was still trying to qual on the pole to earn his seat for '74 when he found out the Depailler had already been signed for next season as the #2 driver. He thought he was being replaced, not promoted.

That track has been particularly brutal throughout the years. :sadangel:

Older I guess.. :(

I remember when Gordon was still running USAC Sprints, a few years before he went Busch racing, and remember watching him and Rich Vogler tear up the track one night at Winchester.

No one else was even on the same lead lap with them if I remember right.

Dad and a friend of his Johnny Vance (USAC Car Owner) were talking that night about how he (The Kid) had no fear as he had never been hurt yet or had a bad crash at the time.

Brad Keselowski I don't remember, but sure do remember his Father Bob racing in ARCA.

Ryan Newman was still racing Midgets when I met him, we were at a Championship banquet around 1993 or 94 I think.. when he won his class championship for the year, and was also awarded the DARF Driver of the Year award

I still have a copy of the program from that night here somewhere as it was in my Dad's scrap book.
