I installed a new malware product (recommended by my MBA program so I am comfortable it's legit) and now my computer "Cannot connect to the proxy server."

Suggestions for the easiest way to approach this problem?

Looks like a good suggestion. Since I already have Kaspersky installed on te desktop, I'll follow this guy's steps and see what happens.

What antimalware program is it?

The proxy server you are using goes out through one or more IP ports. Your program you installed needs to be told to allow that application to use those ports. How you do that is the crux of your problem. You'll need to do some googling on both products.

I need a good anti-malware/virus program. My laptop has the herp. No, not from porn, but I may have accidentally downloaded a movie that was infected.

Yeah, I know I shouldn't have, but I did and now I'm infected with some industrial strength pop-up crap.
