IF if I spelled it right my wife did "pheresis" donations for many years. She started doing it when her little sister got a nasty leukemia disease. That disease killed her but the blood donations prolonged and gave her a better life.

After the sister died as my wife had a not common blood type she continued doing it for bunch of years (about 12). Some of that came as a we need it now in the middle of the night for some super critical patients.

As for me I take some legal drugs that makes my common blood not needed/wanted.

How is this different from giving a pint of regular old red? Can't my pint of red be converted to these byproducts later, without me being present?
