For my wife. Chest pains began Sunday evening. So bad Monday and overnight she couldn't sleep. Extreme pain to lay down. Hurts to breathe. Got her to er Tuesday morning. Ekg ok. Bloodwork suggested possible clot. CT scan had er Doc thinking clot, but radiologist said no. Admitted to hospital, Doc and radiologist thought maybe partial aneurysm. Cardiothorasic surgeon said no. Echocardiogram normal, but shows a very small amount of fluid compared to images she had done about a year and a half ago. Rheumatologist called in, suspects nothing in his realm. Ordering more blood work.

Nobody can figure out what the **** is wrong. Only relief is morphine and some other pill and that only lasts about 4 hours, and is not complete relief. Shits getting old.

Pluracy (sp?) Has also been ruled out as there is no pain when they touch her or push on chest.

it's the worst; when having some sort of major health issue, and it's one that is not easily diagnosed.

Sorry for not keeping up with updates.

Echo-cardiogram on day 2 showed the fluid the CT did, but was still not enough to worry about. Rhuematoligist came in and started throwing Lupus around. Still not very many answers at that point. Day 4, repeated the Echo-cardiogram and the fluid was substantially more. Paricarditis. They tried to go in with a needle to drain it, but when she was laying down, the fluid kind of flattened out and the heart was still hitting the sac wall when it beat, so they couldn't get the needle in without puncturing the heart as well, and smartly so, they pulled out.

Massive doses of steroids did the trick as far as reducing the fluid and thus relieving the pain. Released from hospital on monday, day 7. Tapering off the steroids now, replacing them with another anti-inflammatory, and still waiting on more test results to try to find out what the hell caused it. They have ruled out Lupus. Now looking at a viral infection of some kind, an autoimmune disease, and lastly, and way down the list, the big C. They are not even thinking the c word at this point, but just letting us know that that's the 3 things we are probably dealing with.

Thanks for all the prayers. she kind of foggy right now going through the steroid withdrawal, but the pain is gone.

Glad to hear she's out. Hopefully it was just from a virus infection of some sort. Best wishes to you both.

Check the liver as well. I have seen cases when the liver has issues and causes fluids to build up in the thorax as well.

Hope all goes well and they can find out what is causing this soon.
