I see tiny chain guns firing 4mm BBs at 600 rounds per minute next. Full on dogfights among rogue drone warrior sects vying for local control of the skies. Sales of ballistic fabric umbrellas will be brisk as the public just tries to get out to the car without injury. Somebody call Obama... this is rapidly getting out of hand!!!!!:leaving:

Good luck with that! Unless caught completely by surprise I think it would be pretty damn difficult to snare one like that.

The company in the second video has done pursuit/intercept testing... it's not as hard as one might think.

Wonder if they'll broadcast those on live TV news... "We're going live to Dave Harris in News Chopper 5, with a high-speed drone chase..."

I bet they'd have trouble snaring this guy and his drone...

As good as they are, they still only have the view directly ahead during flight, leaving themselves open for attack from any other angle without warning, and once they turn away from an attacker to run, they're blind again.

To be fair, no law enforcement agency has implemented anything like this as yet, but the students in the OP and the company in the second video are exploring one viable option for patrolling an airspace or taking out a drone that is being flown illegally in certain situations like sporting events, or other large gatherings of people.

No one solution works in law enforcement, that is why cops have cars, trucks, boats, guns, batons, cuffs, zipties, duct tape and teddy bears.

I kind of expected them to have jammers that make the drones uncontrollable within a certain radius...

The quadcopter being pursued tried no evasive maneuvers. Unless you sneak up on them, the quadcopter is slow and not very maneuverable, or has a horrible pilot, it's not going to be an easy task, especially when you have only one shot.

Yeah, and if a guy in a car doesn't want to stop it takes some doing to get them stopped, but the cops still have cars of their own...

I kind of expected them to have jammers that make the drones uncontrollable within a certain radius...That's what I've been saying for a while now. These consumer drones all operate on either 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz which is what wifi signals also use. It wouldn't be that difficult to design a focused transmitter that could be aimed like a gun and once activated it overloads the 2.4/5.8 bands which would cause the drone to drop like a rock or at least self-initiate a RTH.
