Since virtually everything has to be shipped in, it all costs a lot more than stateside.

When I was there last most of the "citizens" had two jobs to make ends meet. There's always tradeoffs to live in one of the nicest places on the planet......

There's a project there that has my name on it. Well, it did until they told me the rate of pay. :ack:

According to this (https://www.missourieconomy.org/indicators/cost_of_living/), Hawaii has the highest cost of living of any state in the USA.

Few years ago, a buddy of mine was offered a job on the islands, with a respectable bump in pay.

A little research revealed the bump was really a significant step back based on the costs to live there.

Makes a big difference.. :yesnod:

When I moved to the Pi income went way down, but then again so did the cost of living.... so in a way it's all relative I guess..

I think you need to also put a price on peace of mind.. so in the long run it all worked out for me.

Some.. maybe even many.. would not like it enough to want to live here full time, but most all I have seen that come here to visit, always come back again as a first choice for vacations.

For many it might be worth it.. :yesnod:

Although I have never been there myself, my father always told me that Hawaii was the most beautiful place on the planet.. and would have been his first choice as a place to live if affordable.

Some jobs may not let it be affordable.. maybe Snide's is? :island14:

I bet they need ice creme there also and they pay more for it... just sayin.. :D

Alan, housing will be shocking.. whether buying or renting.... my house in Ohio sold for $306 back in 2006. The house we bought in a new development was 1/2 the size and we paid $610.

What part of the island is the office in???. traffic is a nightmare.
Not that you'd think about on a island.....
call me if you want to discuss further:kimblair:...

I was told by a guy who was playing golf with my wife and I at Ka'anapali while we were on our honeymoon that Hawaii wasn't that expensive as soon as you understood that this is a Hawaiian $1 bill

Hey Woody, I tried calling you. After dialing the number that I have for you, I got a message stating that the number was not taking calls.

Compared to what?

There are calculators that you can compare where you live with current income to where you'd like to live and projected income needed (to maintain same standard of living).
