View Full Version : Go See THE REVENANT In The Theater... It's Worth It.

See it in the best theater you possibly can. The Revenant was shot using only natural light, no electric light. I don't think this has been done for a mainstream cinema release since Stanley Kubrick's 19th Century period film Barry Lyndon in 1975.
This movie is going to absolutely OWN the Academy Awards...
If you're the kind of viewer that can tell when a film was crafted, as opposed to just pointing a camera at actors, and you care about that, you owe it to yourself to see The Revenant in the cinema...
Best. Movie. This. Year. Sorry, Quentin.

Yesterday on the way home from work, I was listening to a local movie critic on the radio talking about it. Not only was it shot with only natural light, it was shot in the sequence of the story which is also extremely rare today. Since they only used natural light and were filming in sequence there were days they were only able to film for 90 minutes or even not at all. They were on locations over a month longer than when they were supposed to be.
He said it has Academy Award all over it. Definitely on my list
Oh and as far as QT...since he insists on being such a douche bag about LEOs, I guess I can be one for skipping his film Hateful 8

Fukk Tarantino. His movies, in the past, have been great. I'm hearing bad ju-ju about his latest one. Yes, I haven't seen it but there is more shit being said about this one than others in the past. Also, he pissed me off with his anti-police statements. Way to go shit head. You coulda just made great movies and STFU with goofy political statements....but nooooooo.

The Hateful 8 is a fantastic film, and would be my pick for best of the year, if The Revenant wasn't eligible...
TH8 is a slow burn, but at no time was I bored. Walton Goggins shines out, but it is truly an ensemble and everyone rises to the challenge and gives career defining performances, even Micheal Madsen.
I would put it up on the top tier of Tarantino, with Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, rather than his more lurid second tier, Kill Bill, Django, Basterds...
As for his political spewings...
I don't agree with what he said, and I think he's an asshat. But, I've thought he was an asshat for a long, long time. Sadly, he's an asshat that makes amazing movies.
Hollywood is so full of asshats that I disagree with, that if I made that a distinguishing variable on whether or not a saw a particular film, I'd never see another movie again.
Not only that, but movies are such a collaborative effort, literally taking the work of 100's of people, that I can't punish 199 members of the crew because one guy is an insufferable cockbag.

Apex, I give ya credit man, you bring it. :seasix:
Also, I'll watch his movies and even this latest one. Yet, I won't spend theater prices since I'll, at most, rent it for a buck from Redbox. I might even pirate his ass just for GPs, general principles. :D

Roommate just asked me what was the "least good" movie I saw in theaters this year...
Avengers: Age Of Ultron... empty, with all the nutrition of sugarcoated plastic, which is sad, because until Rey and Finn grabbed a certain bit of garbage out of the junk heap, my favorite action scene of the year was Hulk vs Veronica...

That's ok, it was meant for 70mm anyway and that makes it a real hassle for most folks to see the way it was intended...

I've peeped it. "The Hateful 8" can't even hold a candle to "The Revenant." Also, peep "Sicario" with ol' girl Emily Blunt. Easily one of the best films of 2015.

I've seen it. It sucks. A slow, plodding, predictable steamer of doggy doo, IMO.

Greatly looking forward to Revenant. Sicario also looks to be interesting. Brolin and Del Toro have done some nice work.

Make room for "Concussion" too. I hear it's the best thing Will Smith's ever done; PERIOD.

Definitely on my list, missed my chance in theaters.

I was going to skip this, because I find the game itself to be unbearable to watch... now I'm being told this is a new, improved Will Smith... an actor I happen to really enjoy... I even liked Wild Wild West. :D

:clap:Well said. I've thought that ever since they blackballed Jane Fonda way back when. I wish they stuck to what they do best, but I'm not going to be denied great entertainment due to the fact that they don't.

He passed up my tolerance with the "N" word in about 5 minutes. I mean hell, I can tolerate anything, but damn, expand your F'n vocabulary for a minute. Just my .02 And yes, he is an idiot. I like several of his movies, but yeah, his political leanings are more than I can deal with.

Is there anything in Revenant which was not in Jeremiah Johnson way way back in 1972? That film is still with me all these years later.

Flim critics are noting the similarities, too. I'd say it's safe to say The Revenant is the millenial incarnation of JJ.

Someone here turned me on to that website, and they have lots of good movies there. :seasix:
I was trying to download it at the same time I was watching it, and either ran out of bandwidth or just lost connection for too long for it to pick up and reload again.
Made it to about right after the bear attacked him, and was really enjoying this movie.
Hope to try it again Saturday when I wont need to use my net the next day for work.
Quick question for you and the rest of the computer guys here.
When just watching a streamed movie alone, will you use up the same amount of bandwidth as you would if you downloaded it? or less?
For instance this file size was over 400MB

I agree, Cubby. The shadowy heavy "Alejandro" (Benicio Del Toro) is the chilliest villian I've seen on the big screen since your boy Javier Bardem played merciless killer "Chigurh" in No Country For Old Men.
